If you can't afford MoP....

If I'm not able to get MoP, would I still be able to tame the basilisks and water striders that are in the "pre-MoP" world? Any idea?
Also, any ideas if the new glyph and talent systems and ability to change pet type, etc, would still apply?

Yes.
The only things you can't do is:
Make a Pandaren.
Do anything on Pandaria.
Play a Monk.
Participate in Pet Battles? <-- Still unconfirmed.
Any other class changes are something that will happen for everyone, including the new glyphs and talents.

Considering on the PTR it's listed as 'Only level 91', I would have to think that if you don't pick up MoP, it'll probably be not enabled. Seems to me they're holding it for the MoP content, so likely MoP would be needed.
Yes, I know that 90 is the limit, but the point is that they haven't enabled it on PTR at all, so I would think they wouldn't enable it unless you have MoP because they're keeping it as a big carrot.

Seeing as the PTR came out a week after Pet Battles landed on Beta, if Pet Battles are included outside of Mists, it's possible it's just not on the PTR because they want the beta testers to work on the majority of bugs first before opening it to the public.
I just have never seen a comment from a Blue Poster on it Pet Battles will be a Mists-exclusive thing or not. I understand both ways though. Just something I would think they'd address at one point or another.
EDIT: I was actually directed to
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/6080181259 on the official forums.
Pet battles won't require mists... but won't launch until Mists goes live.

I am going to be pushing being able to get MoP before release and I *need* it in order to keep up with my guild since I am now deemed "Raid Healer". x_x Since they allow us to buy the regular then upgrade to the EC, that makes me a bit happy so I can still get my mount/pet. But does anyone know how long they will let you upgrade? That I would like to know as well.
OP, I hope you can get it soon. Though I am glad as well to know that we will see the changes if we can't get it come release date.

Ah! I'm... half-right, then. Not enabled for PTR at all (for the 'carrot') but *will* be enabled for the MoP 5.0 patch. Darn. I would've liked to fiddle with that in the PTR.

And if you can't afford it, another option is cancelling for 2 months, save that money to buy the xpac, and then have a friend scroll you back in, you'll be able to boost an alt, and your friend will get a mount out of the deal!

And people say I'm lying when I say my computer won't run Diablo but runs WoW. Lol.
Glad to see I'm not alone on that. ;P

O_o
Said people must be unaware that D3 had higher requirements. D3 is actually the thing that killed my laptop. >_<

I shamelessly admit I wanted the Annual Pass for the mount. Diablo III was a bonus because I needed to have a fresh WoW install sent to me by a friend anyways, so I had him load Diablo onto the SD card too.

Yeah I wanted the mount. <.< I didn't care for Diablo III much. I mean I know I will have the money, but it may be literally right after the release. Things are super tight till right up to that point. I really want the mount/pet, but I don't know if the CE is gone come release date or how that works.
