Yep, I've gone crazy. Crazy enough to spend hours waiting for a mob that has a 5-22 hour timer, if it spawns in place of its placeholder mob, if it spawns in visual range of me. My chances, they are not good. But in the pre-expansion lull...what else am I to do? My attention span for archaeology is distressingly short, and I raid maybe once a week. My ilvl is 397 and I keep forgetting to spend my Valor, so I don't need to do heroics.

Which leaves...camping. Since I have the rare pets I want on Ziarre, and I have TLPD, that leaves Aeonaxx or Poseidus.

I'll take my chances with Aeonaxx.

The first few days I've been at SW2, but between someone consistently parking on the big spinny rock outside Stonecore and people frequently hanging out at Quartzite, I was already tempted to move before someone started stacking on me last night. So, NW2 it is! ...At least it's a prettier view here, and even if I can potentially keep tabs on one less spawn, what I can see is less likely to be directly camped.

In the few days since I've decided to make a real camp out of this (I've done a few on-and-off 'camps' before, usually while waiting for Stonecore to let me back in), I have seen...nothing. Absolutely nothing. I keep smacking my 'test' button every few hours to make sure I'll recognize the NPCScan alert. Or just to hear it. Quiet zone is quiet. *idly watches Alliance gunship drift by on the other side of the zone*

Instead of considering your chances and thinking about it too much, just camp when you actually want to camp. That's how I ended up with mine. Over the course of around two months, I only camped when I had nothing better to do or if I was watching a film/playing a game on the Xbox. I didn't camp every single day, but when I did camp, I only did it when I wanted to. I didn't force myself. Now that it's coming towards the end of the expansion, there should be a lot less dedicated people out for it, of course that also depends on your realm's population. But doing no-brainer camps where you don't think about your chances, you don't worry yourself over when it last spawned, you don't see Aeonaxx in your dreams every single night are the best. Don't hurt yourself over it. But good luck!

Yeah, the main reason I'm camping is I can't think of anything else to do in WoW.

I've only seen a few people at a time camping, to be honest...usually only one or two others. I know I probably have to take phasing into account there, but it's still encouraging to know that should it spawn within visual range of me, I've got good chances. It's the Aeonaxx-spawning-in-range chances that tend to worry me.

Best I can do is go into it like I do other camps--with the mindset that the longer the camp goes on, the better the chances that probability will overrule RNG. Unless I saw it, though, I can't worry about when it last spawned...unless I actually see Blood Seeker or Aeonaxx I assume that it could be coming up at any time. And don't worry--the muscle relaxers for my muscle spasms won't let me stay awake for days (or even pull an all-nighter).

Haha, that's good you're prevented from all-nighters. I personally don't recommend those.

My Aeonaxx didn't spawn anywhere near where I was camping and I still got him. Occasional fly-arounds ftw. (;

Yeah, every now and then I get fidgety and sweep around--only every hour or half-hour, though. I keep humanoid tracking on, and that helps me figure out how many (in the same phase) I have for deliberate competition since /who only shows me fellow Alliance, and doesn't say where in the zone they are.

In other news, I think I'm addicted to the NPCScan alert. Keep smacking the button at random intervals just because I can. I suspect it's due to pent-up desire to camp. Been a while since the last one!

Edit: I think the only thing that makes me tab in faster than hearing the sound of my mount's wingflaps change would be the alert itself. Sadly, several flap-changes, no alerts.

Don't worry, I did the *exact* same thing. Always pressing that NPC Scan button for no obvious reasons, always tabbing back in when I thought I heard something different.

To be fair, sometimes it's not my mount but someone checking me out...but I can usually distinguish those because the wingbeats will suddenly sound all out of sync.

Dude that started stacking on me at SW2 (after we'd had some nice chats for a couple of days before that, ugh) decided to move to the nice multi-spawn camp spot just east of me (I'm at NW2). I am not amused and wish he would Pick A Spot so that I can settle myself. At least I have the advantage if Aeonaxx spawns at NW1 or NW2, I think. I'd try parking there while he's not there, but I'd really like to have one spawn spot right under me for insta-grab if I get stupidly lucky.

Edit: I really, really, really dislike it when people park on top of me to chat. Sure, maybe it's innocent, but when I know they're after the mount too, it just rubs me the wrong way. If said person is still there when I start camping again tonight...I'll probably move. Again. *grumbles*

Decided to take the risk of a nap to make sure I'm rested for an early-morning camp. Still a bit bleary-eyed, but I hope to stay up until at least noon so that I can cover some ground that I haven't gotten much chance to lately, time-wise. Feels like I'm always stuck in prime-time-to-midnight camps.

I think I've finally managed to be the only person camping. In my phase, at least--Ziarre's quested all the way through to the Therazane dailies. Hardly anyone sits at SE1 or NE1, and every half-hour I sweep the other spawn points...and I always, always have humanoid + beast tracking turned on. It's proven extremely useful for telling if someone's trying to be sneaky about stacking. *had two of those during the prime-time-to-evening time span this evening*

A few minutes later I decided soloing Xariona is a little bit out of my league when I've only had two hours of sleep.

Speaking of sleep, I'm out for a few hours--said lack of sleep caught up to me.

Honestly I think soloing her period isn't a good idea. But yay you saw something? I saw Xariona/bat on friday and got Aeo on saturday....I hope your luck follows mine.

And back to the hunt I go. Hopefully I'm left undisturbed by my family for the good 8-9 hours until chore time. /crosses fingers

I think my computer is starting to protest camping for so long--which makes no sense, as it's a quad-core with 16GB of RAM and a reasonably powerful video card. In any case, it's Too Damn Bad for it, because I am camping this drake damnit. Another three or four hours and it can have a nice sort-of-hour-long rest while I do chores.

Might need a dusting on the inside...sometimes the channels on heatsinks (esp processors) get clogged with dust which causes it to get too hot and start performing poorly.

IDEK, but suspect it simply wants time to cool down that I don't have yet.
