I definitely think I'm going to sign up for this. All my RL friends are on other realms. Only downside is not being able to hide on an alt that no one knows about. LOL

Indeed, can't wait for this to be implemented. My friends are just such a mismatch. We're scattered over nine servers and both factions, and everyone refuses to move/change faction. This sounds good indeed.

I'm not keen on it. My reasons:
1) It gives your real name. Blizz promised us cross-server friends lists, but this means I can't simply friend people I meet in the dungeon finder. If I do, they'll know my name and it's but a matter of a google search to locate me. In a game that's full of asshats, trolls, and verbal abuse, I'm not taking that chance.
2) You can't keep any alts anonymous. I love socialising in WoW and I have three guilds on two servers that I love. But sometimes, I play my baby alt on a server that shall remain unnamed because, well, sometimes I just want to play and nothing else.
I'm extremely disappointed in this. So very disappointed.

Seems like a violation of privacy. I for one am with you in not wanting people to know my name. I'm in the phone book, after all, and if the creep who followed me around for an hour yelling at me in the game knew who I was...I wouldn't like that at all.

My understanding is that RealID friends will be separate from normal WoW friends. So you can still friend that awesome guy that saved the day in your random, and you'll only see his character name(and vice versa if he friends you). I'm betting that RealID will be like how Wii friends work, where you have a code you give to people you want to have as RealID friends. Either that or there'll be a seperate option somehow or other, cause I can't see that being something totally one-sided like friending is now inside WoW.

Hm. My understanding it that this is the only option for cross-server friending. You can friend server buddies the same as always, but you won't be able to friend cross-server without RealID. Well, that's what I've read, but we'll see when it's actually launched. Seems to me there's too much of a grey area to just simply launch it as is.
But yes, it's not one-sided. You'll have to confirm RealID friends before they can see your information and access you any time you're logged into your battle.net account.

I have a more or less empty account on Facebook right now. It's just not something I'm interested in at the moment.

So, im in the SC2 beta, and they have already kinda implemented the Real ID thing. To clear up some concerns--
Certain people will be able to only see a specific character for that specific game. You will be able to choose those people.
You can give your Real ID to people who you dont mind talking to all the dang time. These will be able to contact you no matter what game you or they are in.
