Assist/Defensive change?

Unread post by Vephriel »

It seems both Assist and Defensive stances have had a small change.

Before your pet would instantly attack something that hit you or it, regardless of mob level. Now it seems if a low level mob is attacking you, your pet won't kill it until it actually lands a hit on you, which could take a while since the majority miss depending on the level gap.

Not sure if I like this, since making my pet take care of low level nuisances was a quick and easy perk if I'm clearing old content. Now it won't attack unless a hit connects.

I actually hadn't noticed, since I tend to spam multishot anyway. ;)

I definitely didn't notice in beta since I was just going up against mobs of the same level range, but it became apparent to me now as I was going through Underbog to tame the Black Stalker and my pet was ignoring everything that was following me.

I usually kill lowbie mobs before my pet does. If your pet kills it, you can't loot it.

Most of the time it's not loot I'm worried about for low level things, I just like having them kill things behind me as I run around.

Hmmm, that's a little annoying tbh. I also spend a quantity of time in old instances grinding out little bits of mog gear here and there.

And though I was not one to heavily QQ about the prior stance chance (regardless of my preference to the old) but this change makes our pet even less.. diverse and effective?

Will have to see if this is intended and how it plays out I guess.

It kind of makes sense. I mean, with mass looting, you'll WANT to drag stuff with you to make a massive pile at the end. :)

For that sort of situation I'd just toss them on passive though, since they can still turn around and one-shot something if it happens to connect.

I just don't really see the purpose behind this change? If you don't want your pet to attack low level mobs then you can put them on passive, but if you want them to turn on anything that touches you, that's what assist/defensive was for.

It's not a huge deal for me, but I just find it a bit annoying when I'm trudging through a low level area, and something comes up and starts chomping on me and I have to manually tell my pet to deal with it instead of not worrying about it before. *shrug*

This is a really, really terrible change for me. I do archaeology a good bit and just faceplow through everything if the mobs are under 81 or so. Instead of preventing my surveying or mounting up to fly to another survey spot, my pet will instantly maul whatever is aggroed to me. It saves a lot of time and I like it.

If you don't want your pet to attack something, put it on passive. Simple as that.

Low level stuff I tend to auto-shot before I get to it, my pet doesn't usually get a chance :)

Although that said, Jury (my chromag) decided to kill Taragnaman before I got a shot in yesterday, as I was completing the quest in there to get exalted rep with Orgrimmar ><

Needless to say I had to go out and reset :p

While this feature of the Grimtotem Spirit Guide wasn't exactly intended... - it will still be possible in future for everyone who wishes to tame this NPC to do so

Yeah, I did Jenkins yesterday, and Sheldon sat in amongst the whelps minding his own business until I started taking hits. Picked up the colour changing worg pet (and spider) before it stabilised with 5.0.4

Gah, how irritating. I always appreciated that mine would clear out lowbie mobs for me while doing Archaeology and whatnot. :/

*nod* They would defend you as soon as a mob came up and starting attacking you regardless, the difference now though is that they only rush to your defense if the mob's hit connects. Most low level mobs will sit there attacking you but their attacks miss, so until one actually does a bit of damage to you, your pet won't become active.

Blizz seems to keep removing our pet's ability to think, a few more patches and they will be as useful as mini-pets in a raid.
