Random pet family appreciation thread is where I roll a random pet family every week for everyone to share their pictures, their stories, their love for that pet family. Please no hate or rants. This is an appreciation thread. If you dislike the family, don't post! Hopefully with some love we can get some hunters to try out new pets they never would have thought to tame before.

Our 35th family is the stomping gorilla family!

Gorilla facts

~Tameable since Vanilla WoW.

~Gorillas have five tameable skins.

~Kurmokk, Tsul'Kalu and Uhk'loc are the three gorilla family rares. The white skin is only tameable from two of these rares.

~A-Me 01 is a unique skinned mechanical gorilla skin that is not a beast and cannot be tamed.

~Back in Wrath, gorillas were tamed by 4.0% of level 80 hunters. Placing them at number 7. (Source)

~Back in Wrath, gorillaskinblack was the most tamed skin at 30.7%. Gorillaskinred was the least tamed skin at 15.0%. (Source)

~Gorillas where the original pet family with Thunderstomp, which made them THE tanking pet back in Wrath until patch 3.1.0 when Thunderstomp was changed to a talented spell for all tenacity pet families. Gorillas received Pummel with the trade. Gorillas also had Bite until Smack was released as a pet ability in Wrath.

~Bananas is a baby gorilla minipet from a TCG loot card.

~Super Simian Sphere a trinket that turns the player into a gorilla in a bubble!

~Players talk to gorillas in Un'Goro during the quest Ever Watching From Above. A hunter that has tamed an Un'Goro Thunderer or U'cha can talk to their own tamed gorilla!

I don't expect this thread will see many replies. ;) Like many people, I just couldn't get into gorillas. It wasn't that I didn't like their colors or anything, in fact some of them are quite neat. I just...I dunno. They didn't do anything for me.

Well, I eventually made a baby hunter named Aylinn, and while I was out and about in STV one day, I came across Tsul'Kalu. He was huge! And, of course, he is a shiny rare, so naturally I was intrigued. I figured, "What the heck!" and tamed him.

I was surprised to find that I was actually growing attached to this lumbering creature. Buddy, as I called him, was very obnoxious. He threw stuff, disobeyed, and generally made life difficult for Aylinn. And yet...he was also a very caring friend deep down. He may have acted like a spoiled brat 90% of the time, but there were those times he'd get serious and leap to Aylinn's defense if needed.

Aylinn, while oftentimes exasperated with Buddy, also enjoyed the entertainment he brought to her life. Aylinn tried taming other creatures, but I don't even remember any of them without logging onto her. The only one that sticks out is Buddy.

The only picture I seem to have anymore is actually a signature I made a while back. :) But, it does a pretty good job of showing Buddy's personality.

I didn't know we could still talk to the tamed ones! Might go tame one in the lull to try it out. The Un'Goro Stompers don't talk?

Edit: Realized Wassa meant that we can talk to our tamed gorillas during the quest :)

I admit, I used to dislike Gorillas. It was their creepy, almost evil facial expression! It freaked me out for some reason. It reminds me a little bit of Jack Nicholson's character in the film, The Shining, after he's gone mental, chops down the door with an axe to kill his wife, sticks his head through the opening and says "Here's Johnny!"

But one day, the unexpected happened. I created an Orc huntress and she somehow, against my better judgement, bonded with one of those scary-faced gorillas! It's odd, but gorillas do seem to work out quite well for Orcs in my opinion. I couldn't get one to bond to my Tauren or my Draenei ... but SHAZAM, just like that, a bond was formed almost instantly with my Orc!

Anyhoos. This is Drakara's gorilla Ajax:

I suppose they really are likable creatures in a way. One managed to win me over

Oh, I admit, I do rather love gorillas. Their huge, blocky model is really appealing to me. I'd very happily have one on every hunter if not for that butt scratch animation! I can still appreciate them from afar, though. <3

I do love Gorillas, and have fond memories of gallivanting with my Uhk'loc...but after reading this fabulous post, I couldn't help it. XD

I hate Gorillas. Not in real life, of course, but in the game. The model is so ugly, the faces so mean and stupid, the colours boring. I ran around for ten levels with a black one on my first hunter, and remember thinking all the time how he looked like a dumb, angrier, uglier little brother of my black Tauren.

I really enjoyed reading about all the gorillas on the thread, they really are a pet that you either love or hate!

My main Zens has a red gorilla named Oogabooga.
Up until this last patch he was my tanking pet and my standard "in town" pet as he is my favorite pet.
He was however a tanking pet and his pet ability was not as useful as the others.

However, after this last patch he is with me constantly, even beating Alliance faces in when I do BGs.

His large and powerful appearance is a perfect counterpoint to the small stature of my goblin hunter.
The idle animation that the gorilla model adds a bit of personality that is quite enjoyable.
It is almost as if he has a personality.

I just love the big guy.

Funny you guys should mention U'cha, as I actually tamed him ages ago (in fact, back when Hunters used mana and Thunderstomp was unique to Gorillas, which made them THE pets for dungeon soloing - send in monkey, round up mobs, AOE tank and spam Volley until all is dead.) I tamed him while waiting for the rare white gorilla Uhk'loc to spawn, and found him more charming that the rare, despite not being unique.

So now he's Tonka. Lazy, bit of a slob, has a habit of trying to sneak snacks from guildmates' packs. Basically a cross between a fratboy and a throw-rug. But fearless when the time comes to step up. He's one of the few pets of mine whose talent tree (namely, Tenacity) that I've never changed
