Dumb Luck. Luck of the Irish. Whatever it is... Rare Spawns

With a last name like 'O'Brien', I'm sure I've a bit of Irish luck in me. Normally, my efforts to hunt Rare Spawns are through pure dedication, stubbornness, and willing to camp for X-hours at a time. (Or farm, in the case of dropped items / pets)

I've a Night Elf hunter. See her in the icon picture? Yes. She's pinkish-purple-blue theme. You can imagine most of my pets somehow fit her as well (as does her Violet Proto Drake mount which was gotten this week too! ) In her stables, she currently has a hard won Loque'nahak and Numaroc, and even more hard earned Skoll that took a week of trying to find. Along with a basic wolf for raiding, I hadn't found anything to flesh out the last stable slot that was within easy grasp.

I wanted Aotona. She fit the color scheme perfectly. The downside, I've never once seen this bird alive or dead in the wild - only a few flapping around Dalaran already tamed. I had not given it much thought. I logged on to my Paladin to go farm ore. First lap into the Sholazar Basin, I find Loque'nahak, being approached by a Blood Elf hunter. I cheer her on and she ends up with a new kitty. That is a great start to a day. After sometime of farming, I log out and just relax.

I come back, this time on Phyra. Something in the back of my mind makes me think I've a shot at finding Aotona. It was getting late, and I really couldn't afford to be up much longer, but something about seeing Loque'nahak, and then King Krush not long after I originally re-logged back on, made me think to stay in the area.

Long story short, after circling the inner part of the Basin for a bit longer, I camp a spot. Like any stories that say the camp a spot, you get itchy to move. Well I moved. Did a lap. Who do I see sitting in the spot I had been camping? Aotona! I was too shocked to think to take any screenshots of her in the wild. I apologize for that. But I went ahead and tamed her! First time in a year of on and off looking that I had ever seen her! So color me very happy :)

-----

A day or two later...

My little hunter now has her 'worm hole generator' and I decide: Lets see where it drops me! I pick the Sholazar Basin. Dropped out, and I then move to find some easy kills to help level up my new Aotona. Color me surprised that this morning finds me nose to nose with a wild Loque'nahak AGAIN. I put the call out to various channels I'm on (including the Petopians channel on the server), my own guild, and even for various random hunters online. No one wanted him that was on and would get him in the time he'd despawn. He was edging towards the last minute or so of being around. Decided to kill it. I did. I had people try and offer me gold/items for the neck he dropped. However, I figured I'd keep the neck piece as a 'good luck charm'. Boy is it ever.

A tiny backstory is I've a Blood Elf hunter. One time I found a second Skoll on my Night Elf, but my Blood Elf was too low to tame it. It was heartbreaking as I really wanted the other Skoll on her. I ended up killing it with the same guideline/situation as above. I still feel a bit grimy just not letting it despawn - but I've the dagger as a nice reminder.

So. After killing Harkoa's mate and testing out the worm hole generator, I kick around on the druid to finish the Children's Week achievements. Somewhere above Storm Peak's Frosthold, I log out. Close to raid time, I pop back on to move to do the one daily for the Valykier (sp?). I fly over the foot steps and I see something blue.

BING. Silverdragon goes off.

It is Skoll. I'm shocked. My second (technically third chance) at getting an electric puppy for my Blood Elf ... who is parked in Dala-lag city. D'oh! Longest 20 second log out ever. Longest 2 minutes logging into Dalaran ever. Add that to 3 minute or so furious flight on a regular epic-flier to the area.. and I was sure I would have lost him. Would you believe it? In that high traffic area, Skoll was still waddling around.

Paranoid, as even if you start the tame I've had folks ruin it by killing the spawn from under me... I start taming. Thrillingly, the bar went down and the tame was successful. My little belf hunter now has her own Skoll. (who desperately needs a good name).

EDIT:
And totally just helped Sarayana snag a Skoll :D Called its respawn timer n' was able to direct Sar' to'em! GRATS AGAIN HON!

EDIT #2 and #3

I wasn't physically around, but gave calculations for Atlantaria to get her Loque'nahak (I was dead on the money on naming the time it'd spawn), and her Skoll. I gave her a rough estimate, and then she found him in the morning.

That night, we estimated a 12 hour spawner, and lo and behold.. I got Midar (was there for it again) we got Midar her Skoll! Told her butt to get out to the Peaks. Spawned at 9:15 ( about an hour off on my original guess)

So. Summery / tl:dr:

In about two days found the following Rare Spawns:
Loque'nahak
King Krush
Aotona - TAMED
Loque'nahak - Killed
Skoll - TAMED.
Skoll - TAMED by Sarayana
Loque'nahak - TAMED by Atlantaria
Skoll - TAMED by Atlantaria *
Skoll - TAMED by Midar

**each Skoll tamed 12-24 hours after each one listed.

Not bad if I say so myself!

If on the YSERA realm, for the lova'pets. Get on that Petopians channel if you want to hear alerts to rares in the area!

Congrats Phyra!! :D That's some awesome luck. ^^

Hehe, actually I just rolled a female dwarf hunter on Ysera so if by some miracle I manage to get her past 20 I'll keep an eye out on that channel. :)

Well Gratz  . I've been hunting that elusive bird myself for quite some time. Only seen her once as a pet (must be rare catch on my server  )

Doh! I'm on Ysera and totally forgot about the channel. I already have all the rares I want though. :D But I guess if I'm in the area and see one, I can broadcast it.

Grats on your tames!!!

Praise P. Dawg!

His will alone is what causes the luck of the Irish.

I do. It's almost as ironic as the guy who said "look at the rocketsquirrel!". That wast a rocketsquirrel. It was just a squirrel with sone rockets taped to it.

FALSE ADVERTISING, I TELLS YA!
