Expansion needed?

Will I need to purchase the MoP expansion in order to get pet battles? Or will they be available to everyone?

These will be accessible to everyone when it goes live, from what I've heard. However, you obviously won't have access to the wild pets from Pandaria if you don't purchase it!

Alrighty, thank you! My buddy only has WiW through BC and will get the other expansions when he has the money, so he was curious. Thanks ^_^

By the way, your friend now has wow through wrath; everything pre-cataclysm is now part of the basic game.
