How to pick a rare pet...

On the official WoW forums there's been a discussion thread on how to determine if a pet is rare at the start of battle by its health.
But then someone posted a macro that can tell you for sure:
Code: Select all
/run for i=1,C_PetBattles.GetNumPets(2) do SELECTED_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(C_PetBattles.GetName(2,i).." - ".._G["BATTLE_PET_BREED_QUALITY"..C_PetBattles.GetBreedQuality(2,i)]) end
The thread is here:

I got this info from Warcraftpets, however. Thanks WCP

Awesome! though I'll still probably (for now) battle the piss out of everything for exp regardless.

For the record, a coder friend of mine made a small change to the above macro:
Code: Select all
/run for i=1,C_PetBattles.GetNumPets(2) do print(C_PetBattles.GetName(2,i).." - ".._G["BATTLE_PET_BREED_QUALITY"..C_PetBattles.GetBreedQuality(2,i)]) end
It does the exact same thing, but saves several characters (using 'print' instead of SELECTED_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage)'. That way, if you want to add in something else, there's just a smidge more space, since macros have a character limit.
If you're not tinkering with it, you can use either one. If you *are* thinking of tinkering with it, saving space is a good thing.

This macro has come in very handy! Thank you for posting it. Now if only I could get a rare Jade Oozeling to spawn, I would be very happy.

There's actually a very useful addon that will tell you the quality of all pets, both front and back automatically with coloration of the names. Been very helpful!
