So, there's a couple of rares in Pandaria that drop brand new minipets: Karr the Darkener (Grinder) and Nalah Verdantis (Aqua Strider). I personally have been having my eye on both those ever since I hit the appropriate level, and clearly haven't been the only one; most of the time I fly over only to find their fresh corpses.

Sadly the drop rate isn't 100%. I've killed Nalah once but he didn't drop the minipet (and later that day watched a Hordie kill him and promptly learn the pet, meh :P).

Just now I got lucky though, and found Karr alive and untagged for the first time. After a short fight filled with accidental add pulls he went down and actually dropped the minipet! <3

I'm gonna have to look into those.. ^^

A question: are these minipets 'boxable'?

I killed Nalah last night and got the Aqua Strider pet. I then flew over to where Karr is and he was up too, but someone was in the process of killing him. I have seen his corpse several times, and the re-spawn for him seems to be not too bad so hopefully I can get my Grinder pet too soon.

I have Grinder, got him last night, and he is boxable. And freakin' adorable!! I didn't know there was an aqua strider but I must have it!

Just killed Nalah again, but still no Aqua Strider. :(

They have a 7-8% droprate, and are tradeable as battle pets.

How did I not know this!?

Now I must wait for restart to be over.. because I'm going right over for the little strider -squee!-

As far as I know, it's only the two that are dropped from rares.

But it's probably also worth mentioning that there's one from getting rep with one of the Tillers too....

Took me days to figure out that the rares had a chance of dropping extra items like these pets. Ever since then I've been camping the ones with the extras that I want. Karr dropped his pet (Grinder) on my second kill (I killed him maybe 5 times after that and did not get a second one), Nalash took me somewhere around 8 - 10 kills (I lost track!) to drop the Aqua Strider.

A possible hint to make things easier (I don't know if it's like this on every server though): they always spawned at the exact same time on my server so if you see one is up, immediately check on the other one as well. I usually killed Nalash first because people were divebombing him to kill him, and he's in the middle of a heavily trafficked quest area.

Coincidence; their respawns stagger.

Guess my server's glitched or something then, because when one rare spawns in a zone, every rare in that zone seems to spawn at the same time. And it's been doing that for days. I have definitely confirmed it myself with flybys and gotten confirmation from other players in general channel (ie people looking to kill Karr when I'd just flown by, seen that he wasn't up, gone to Nalash and watched him spawn). Noticed the same thing in Jade Forest and Eternal Vale and Valley of Four Winds as well... So while it didn't make sense, that's what's been happening.

That said, since the restart today I've only seen one rare up, which is unusual. It might've thrown that pattern off finally.

They could all be dying around the same time consistently - I've been seeing similar behavior with some of the Vale rares on my server, for example. But they just tend to get spotted fast.

They are getting killed very fast, which is why I'm sure they're spawning near simultaneously for my server. And I just did a flyby and sure enough it looks like they're all back on the previous spawn schedule. On the one hand this makes it easy to go check on rares, but on the other I'm always torn between flying as fast as I can to the ones I want to kill, versus hanging around for the ones I need for the achievement.

Anyhow, back on topic, Karr and Nalash are pretty close together so it's easy to check on one after you've killed the other.

Ugh, I keep killing Karr but he refuses to drop that Jade pet.

Finally! After killing Nalash at least a dozen times, he decided to give in and drop the Aqua Strider. <3

Congrats! I cant find either of the 2 rares alive >.> Stupid Med pop server! lol
