Heart of the Phoenix issue?

I don't know if this is a temporary glitch or a known issue...
I can't insert Heart of the Phoenix into my pet action bar.
I also find that my Quilen pet seems to be extra squishy. He died twice while questing (my pet dying is VERY new to me, it happens so rarely to me).
And when he died, there was nothing I could do: he didn't self-rez from HotP, I clicked and clicked on HotP in my spellbook and nothing happened.
Is this functioning "as designed"? It seems illogical to me, but, I'll happily go along with whatever others here say.
By the way, I think the way Quilen run absolutely has to be THE cutest thing in the whole game.. they have such a big puppy-dog clumsy lope to them. I would LOVE to rely on teh Quieln as my go-to pet, since I love it so much, but so squishy and with the self-rez issue, I'm not sure I'll be able to.

Ok, it seems there WAS some sort of temporary glitch about dragging HotP into my pet's action bar.
I logged out and when I logged back in, I was able to drag the ability to the action bar with no problem.

I've noticed that sometimes after I first tame something, I can't rearrange the pet skills on action bar, or put HotF there. Dismissing the pet and re-summoning always works for me. I'm not sure about the HotF spell not working at all, I haven't had that happen yet.
Ferocity pets have felt all around squishy to me this xpac. Because of this, I've run around with my Tenacity turtle almost all the time. When I do bring out my other pets, I've been speccing them Tenacity when things get rough.

Oh really? I've been running around with all my pets as ferocity and they've been tanking elites and such. Sure, they're squishier than they would be as tenacity, but with all the stuns and exhilaration and such, plus HotP, they tank just fine.

I don't know, maybe my timing is off today.
I haven't had a pet die on me in so long that this came as a bit of a shock.
maybe I need to check my glyphs too.

When I'm in BM, my pets tank fine regardless of what spec they're in, but when I'm in MM there's only so much damage they can take, even as tenacity. I have no idea why this would be the case for your Quilen though, since you have to be BM to use those anyway... O.o

I think it's probably that I feel safer with a Tenacity pet. XD

I have always wanted to see King Krush do a Thunderstomp. Now I get to.

The only reason Ferocity pets seem squishier now is that Bloodlust, the old self heal talent, was removed. Now you actually have to watch your pet's health again and use Mend Pet. I have also talented into Exhilaration and it helps a lot, especially when fighting those rare NPC's.
Quilens are no squishier than any other pet. You could also run with a Spirit Beast and put Spirit Mend on autocast. He will heal himself when his health gets low if you do that.

well, that sort of defeats the purpose of finally having a Quilen pet

Not really, what I meant was to save the Spirit Beast for those really tough solo encounters and use the Quilen for the rest of the time if you really like them. That's what I've been doing since I have grown very fond of my cobalt version of Portent. The crit buff at this point is also slightly better than the mastery one for soloing. I hate only having 12.6% crit now.

My Patrannache tanks like a monster in Ferocity spec. I've never seen him dip below 90% health

My pets stay alive fine in PvE if I just throw a Mend Pet on them every once in a while, but it seems to be getting to be a problem in PvP, where people can just kill my pet and I will be pretty much doomed.

the way I play, I've so rarely had to make constant use of Mend Pet, but with Pandaria, it would seem that Mend Pet has to be a regular part of the rotation. Even when not taking on elites or particularly troublesome mobs.

It's just the fact that before pets had a talent that would autp heal them every time growl was cast or whatnot. It made pets very hard to kill and allowed some of us to take on much higher level mobs and even elites like it was a walk in the park. That is why they removed the self heal from the talents.
