Yes it's the 5th tomorrow or in two days for some people I guess. Anywho it's Guy fawkes!

If you don't know what that is it's the day we celebrate the stopping of the Gunpowder plot. That was a plot to blow up the King of England King James I. Guy Fawkes was a member of that group who was guarding the bombs and he met a nasty end lets put it like that  The simple version is it's a celebration of the fact we stopped a terrorist plot!

But any who it's a time to light up fireworks and have a fun night with friends and family. I know here anyway it's a bigger day than Halloween (That's a holiday hardly anyone does here anyway)

So does anyone have any plans?

I do. Me and my mates are having a big party. I sadly have be nominated to be one of the sober fireworks lighters XD We are not stupid and know booze and gunpowder don't mix

SO what ever you are doing be safe and have a fun night!

I envy you so much!

When I was a kid, back in the 70s, we used to celebrate it. But nowadays no kid would even know the term. Once they banned fireworks (late 70s or early 80s), the tradition died out.

The first time I went to NZ was around Guy Fawkes', and it was a bizarre experience. Like I'd stepped into a time machine! I also couldn't believe people there could just go to the Warehouse and buy a huge tub of fireworks!

I hope you have a great time. It sounds like you guys are really responsible about it. Sadly not everyone is, and over the decades a lot of kids have been badly injured, so I do understand why they banned them without a permit here, but I do miss them :(

Not something we've ever celebrated here, but I've always thought it sounded fun. Maybe one day I'll visit NZ or something. :)

Ahthat's a bummer. I forgot they did that over there.
Oh dude you can buy fireworks at the side of the road! They made it so you can now only sell them in the last few days before the 5th so it gets kinda crazy!

Yeah there is always some kids getting hurt or someone being stupid sadly :(

In the USA, the legality of fireworks depends on where you live. Even in places where you can normally buy them from a roadside stand (!!), they are banned during droughts to reduce the chance of wildfires.

Of course, we mainly use fireworks to celebrate our rebellion against a King of England ;)

Yeah, nobody celebrates it where I am either, but my friend was over when I saw this post and she made me watch V for Vendetta. So I celebrated it by learning about a wonderful movie, at least?

Eh That movie is good but the comic it's based on is way better :3 I do have to say I have meet a few people who after seeing that movie think Guy fawkes was a good guy when he was not in real life. XD

Oh no, he's definitely not. Complete terrorist. xD Don't worry, I'm not assuming he was a pure-minded freedom fighter!

And yeah, I've been told very good things about the graphic novel.

That's not to say the movie was not good cos it is! They are very different in some places like the comic is set in the 90s and V himself is different person really!

I do enjoy Alan Moores work. He's a good writer I think.

Interesting how it is still celebrated for how old this event is. Poor Guy Fawkes, just trying to help his pals.

My family lived in England before I was born and we have photos of them celebrating Guy Fawkes... Before V for Vendetta, I'd always remembered the nursery rhyme going "Please to remember the 5th of November..." and it was weird to find out that most people say "Remember, remember the 5th of November..." instead.

It's also strangely appropriate that Anonymous uses the Guy Fawkes mask as their trademark. They celebrated by hacking a bunch of websites including Lady Gaga's and the Australian and Canadian government's...
