According to a tweet from a blue...there is a reason that we don't have permanent bat mounts like we do for all other taxis.

The reason? they need a better looking model for em.

The tweet:

Q: "Oh and where is my bat mount? Bats have been taxis forever and it's still not a mount. Hook a forsaken up!"

A: "We need a better looking bat model, but after that, for sure."

That'd be a cool new pet model too. I like bats IRL but the model in WoW looks kinda shonky.

Ive been twiddling my thumbs for years for bat mounts good to hear that it'll be greatly considered when bat's get new models added to the game (not reskins, just new models like the MoP tigers ;3)

Yep, I've been sitting and waiting for a bat mount for yeeeeeeeeeears. Hopefully they give us one or two soon!

would be awesome if bats got a new model...especially if it updates tamable and troll druid models to.

I think they will make a new model IE like the new griffon mounts as in not replacing the old models just a new thing with a new model.

Same. I'd imagine that would be a quick fix to make one model for a quick mount, and they'll just straight out update the rest based on that at a later date once they get colors and stuff. Maybe sometime when they could introduce tamable bats in said model (Like Shado Pan tigers and Pandaren tiger pets!). Would be nice, at least. :3

Really? It's already been 8 years now that they have been taxi mounts. Oh and if you want to "Nit Pick" the Cenarian Hippogriff became available late 2007 (5 years ago) which is essentially the Ally equivalent of the Bat. Even if they made it available now/soon, at least we will be able to use it for the next 1.5 years until they have time to do a new one... No I'm serious, It will probably take that long...

And I find it ironic that they say also follow up there "Reasoning" about not allowing current models prior to updating them, by then saying things like...
"Oh we updated your gryphons, tigers, yada yada, but we/you can will keep the old versions because some people like them too."
Um, so why not just give us the old bat model now, and ADD the new one when they "get time" to?

Meh, maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but when you hear the same reason again and again, it starts getting old, and when they say other things to contradict it.... it gets worse.

I don't think you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, your reasoning is quite valid. I have only been in WoW for a year now and have already grown sick of the "we don't like the model" excuse. There are a lot of crappy models out there that need fixing, one more that people are asking for is going to go over there "crappy model quota"? I don't think so. Just release it, there is nothing perfect about this game don't hold off because you can't make something perfect. That's why there are patches, and remodels.

I would love a bat model, even though they would probably be horde only. It would be cool to see something that has the same ground movement animations as a real bat. Very creepy and well fitting for Horde and the Forsaken. (I hope they find a way around having hole in the middle of their wings to accommodate your feet though. I cringe every time I see that.) good to know they are keeping it in mind at least.

I think with some mounts simple require a different 'positioning' of the player on them. Flaying carpets we stand on, with bats maybe we could lay down on? lol, i dunno. Bats would be cool though, has always wanted one. It sounds like they're looking at making a better bat model one day, so that would be nice too.

Racial flying mounts would be cool... we got racial ground mounts, why not flying mounts too?

The current model looks fine to me. Much better than the blocky wyvern, which is the Horde staple. But then maybe it looks terrible under conditions that taxis don't experience. I can't think of what that would be, though.

My suspicions are more along the lines of (i) them being worried that making a bat into a personal mount now will be equated to releasing a NEW mount, and people will treat the model as if it's new and criticize how old it looks, or (ii) they're already on their way with a new bat model and were just hinting at that.

If the latter, hopefully we get fancy new bat pets at the same time

Definitely. I agree. I think they're already working on one.

I don't see why they would care about a little clipping of the wing membrane on bat mounts. On some of my mounts, I have my entire foot and calf shoved inside the mount's torso!

Hahaha, true that, the new engineering rocket mounts is one your supposed to "sit" in?
My feet actually hang out through the metal hull ... and that's brand new custom build from MOP!? (In fact MOP has got some of the worst offenders when it comes to clipping)

Well as much as they "May" be coming up with a new bat mount.

a) How long ago did they start updating our character mounts, and we still don't even know when we will see them. Goodness knows how long the bats could take as it's priority is not gonna be that high right?

b) The bats should have been added some time ago imo, but could still be added, even if it's in some kind of legacy way? Maybe drop from a rare spawn (aka TLDPD, Aeonaxx) for people to hunt? Not hard to make something up... Maybe High Priestess Jeklik returns and she drops a bat mount? (Yes I know that the Darkspear Tribe supposedly entered Zul'Gurub and destroyed Jeklik's body, preventing her resurrection in ZG.2, But did they destroy it, or just take/move it???)

c) Don't forget it took them 7 years for add the chromatic drake...



who was from vanilla, and yet they had it drop off Ultraxion in DS!?! No one complained from what I remember about it being available (apart from me wishing it did not drop from a raid boss so deep into a Raid gonna be ages before we can farm for that guy)

Anyways, sure they might have some reasoning behind it, it's their game after all, I just wish they where a little more clear about it as the info they are passing on seems... conflicting.

Yeah, I was only wondering because of the unexpected wyvern and gryphon updates recently. When he said they'd have to wait for a new bat model I was wondering if that was a hint it was already underway

Theres also the flying idle to bat's... its truthfully absolutely horrid to me.. that and the wyvern idle. Anything that sits like the bat or wyvern is horrendous for me to look at.

Not as they sit as wild beasts mind you, when a player sits on one, your pretty much hanging on to dear life to keep from falling off, but of course our chars dont reflect that and we sit diagonally with not a care in the world. The idles are perfectly fine without anything sitting on em but when you do put a humanoid on em, its horrible and extremely annoying. Its one of the specific reasons why i dont ride wyverns as my normal mount.

I dont oppose bats much -for now- cause i would suck it all up and deal with it just to ride them on my undead Im sure it would probably wear down on me and id start using different mounts if i couldnt get past the animation, but luckily i dont play my undead chars much. Im twiddling my thumbs anxiously awaiting next halloween to battle round 2 with the headless horseman who shamelessly refused to give me his mount for the entire event ;_;

I could definitely see myself swapping between the horseman's mount and a bat to keep up the love of both mounts and not be bothered too much by any animation or graphic irks.
