Is there any rhyme or reason they're still non tamable? With so many pets having their gaming restrictions lifted, and other monsters being relabeled "beasts" for taming purpose, it seems kinda silly for them not to be tamable.

Various old beasts are becoming tameable on a rather irregular schedule. Originally they were not deemed tameable probably because of the armor. With recent changes to this mindset, they might be reconsidered one day. You'd just need to wait.

Agreed with Zhinru. Patience, dear hunters. We aren't guaranteed we'll get them but with the recent release of armored raptors being tameable, the future seems bright.

I hope so. They're definitely gonna expand on the Zandalari threat in Pandaria, so they could potentially use both the orange and pink skinned ones.
I must admit though, I'm quite happy with how generous Blizzard has been with giving us new pets.

Back in the Cata beta it was decided the harness was too much. Even though riding worgs had set a precedent they decided this was overkill. I thought it was a shame, since the harness on the bears looks more like armour and less like a saddle than the wolves.
Since then we've had tameable riding raptors, including ones with armour. So who knows? Maybe they'll change their minds
