Pet Suggestion: Mysteriasaurs

Unread post by Crotalus Horridus »

Yep, I'm doing these again. Let's begin with a brand new format!

What is a ?
Will explain it in the lore section. You'll get a mental image from the explanation.

You're referring me to this ''Lore Section'', can you just tell us what you're talking about?
No. If you wish not to read it, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09h7EinWRHE

Lore -
Before the Great Sundering, there once lived a group of reptiles known as the Mysteriasaur. These animals were known by any race for their incredible ability to kill and devour anything in their way. It didn't matter whether it was a Kunchong, a Mogu, a Dire Horn, or even a Mantid Empress, they would always try to take it down and rip it to shreds, and would usually succeed in doing so or die trying. It is their constant destruction of competition that made them so successful. They were able to take out all other threats to their kind in an effort to help progress through a constantly changing world. This kind of behavior intrigued races like the Mogu, which looked for ways to control them, which almost always ended in dead Mogu and fed Mysteriasaurs. As strange as it is, nobody knows where they came from. Not even the Titans, the creators of most life on Azeroth, have a single clue of where these animals came from. Some have claimed that these animals are from another dimension, a dimension filled with unimaginable violence that even Azeroth cannot handle on a daily basis, which may be why the Mysteriasaurs are so voracious when confronted. Their design is also quite intriguing as well. They have a long, almost Crocolisk-like head with long pointed teeth. They walk, almost slither, around with their somewhat short legs and their webbed, five fingered toes. While they walk, most likely guarding their families, their long, fish-like tails drag through the sand, leaving python-like trails to indicate where someone should stop.
When the Great Sundering had occurred and destroyed the home of the Mysteriasaurs, the entire species disappeared. No bones, no dead bodies, no living animals, nothing. Races such as the Mogu looked high and low to find any trace of the Vorterato, with no luck at all. Most believe that when the land was ripped apart, the animals were whisked away to their original dimension. However, in recent times, it appears that they have come back. And with their return, they've come back bigger and better than before, and some have become bold enough again to begin the devastation.

Your description of them wasn't very. . . well. . . good. Could you just try to give me a mental image?
Put all of these animals together and see what your mind gets.

Will it be exotic?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8u7px_GzWQ

What are it's abilities?
Image
Jaws of Death
2 Minute Cooldown.
Lasts for 10 seconds.
Instant cast.
- Increase damage that the target takes and increases the attack power of both the hunter and their pet.

Image
Interdimensional Teleportation
1 Minute Cooldown. (Will probably be nerfed.)
Instant.
Instant cast.
- The Mysteriasaur teleports the target 20 yards away in a random direction from the player.

Criticism is welcome, and if you have any ideas for different/better abilities, simply post em' down below.

Any edits?
Part of the Family has been removed due to the fact that they're based off of cannibalistic sea reptiles. Other abilities will be edited because they're special snowflakes-ish.
Other languages are HARD! So, they're getting a name change (For only 10$).
The ability Interdimensional Teleportation has had it's direction (Sort of) specified.

My mind is good at deriving things from things that fit with things. I got the idea of a Mosasaur-Pliosaur-Lungfish-thingy due to the fact that all of said animals lived with dinosaurs. The interdimensional part. . . was. . . well. . . I'm not sure. I guess I should go on an adventure!

Technically it has only two abilities, I'm simply stuck between Interdimensional Teleportation and Jaws of Death.

Looks like I forgot the part where it kills everything is because they simply want a more safe future for their offspring, but I probably didn't put it in because the animals it's based off of are cannibalistic.

I'll make a few touch ups on the abilities, so refresh the page in a little bit.

EDIT: If Blizzard ever sees this and makes it a reality, I'm naming mine Vorpalpotato.

Slapperfish wrote:And coming back to the lore section you wrote, I feel like you slipped "Dire Horn" into the paragraph just because you want one so much. XD
Who doesn't want one badly?
Slapperfish wrote:Also, why not just tame a Warp Stalker and name it that?
IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME!

EDIT: New versions have been added, and now they aren't as special snowflakey as they were before.

I can tell you one thing: that name would never make it through. Everybody would call it just "that dino-thing", so why don't stick to some more English-sounding name? That's probably by ceratopsians are called Dire Horns and tyrannosaurus rex became a devilsaur.

(Will read through mechanics later)

I gotta say, as soon as I saw this in the "Pet Discussion" preview I thought "and that's from Crotalus Horridus!"

It really should have a more simplistic name. However, I do like your ideas.

That teleport should definitely be reworked into a death grip, because otherwise I can't see it work. It teleports the target 20 yards away from the player, but... where? I mean, there's a whole circle at that distance from the player, so what's the target destination? Teleporting the target to the pet would make more sense.

Having it teleport the target to the pet would contradict the usage of Blink Strike. Would make more sense for it to teleport them away from you so your pet can then use Blink Strike than to teleport them to the pet (Which is possibly right next to you) and not use the proper function of Blink Strike and also make it easier for the target to attack you, depending on where your pet is located.

Okay, so where exactly does it teleport the target? 20 yards away, but in which direction? Towards the pet (just not right into its face)? Straight backwards? In a random direction? It just sounds so vague, if you said that as a designer, your programmer would either ask you this question, or just make the answer up.

I edited the ability earlier in the day to say ''in a random direction.''

Then if I may suggest an improvement, that feels too... random. I know the intention is to just pull the target away from the hunter (at least that's what it looks like) but random direction can potentially end up messing up things. Maybe straight backwards would be a better option?

Though I would still scrap that whole ability. If you pull away, it should be a death grip. If you feel that collides with Blink Strike (which is an optional talent), then perhaps this ability needs to be replaced with something else. Just my two cents.

They wouldn't add an ability that gives the attack power/pet attack.

It would force all beast mastery hunters to use this pet, and this pet alone.
