What are BattleTags?

I know this is probably the silliest quest anyone's ever heard, but it's driving me nuts!

What are BattleTags? I keep seeing people posting them in the pet buff taming thread to help (or be helped by) other hunters. Also, don't you have to be on the same realm get help getting the sha-pets and and Kung Din since they're in Pandaria?

If someone could answer those two questions, I'd really appriciate it! *monk-style bow*

BattleTags are the cross-game identifiers you can use to friend people. They're a bit more anonymous than Real-ID. For example. having friended people using a BattleTag, I can talk to them while they're playing WoW and I'm running around in Diablo 3. Like Real-ID, the person being friended must accept the "invitation".

I can't help you with the other question - I'm no longer WoWing, sorry.

If you're battletag or real id buddies with someone, yes, you can get them into your Pandaria. Some restrictions may apply, like timezones (if your realms are more than three hours apart, you may not be able to do this in Pandaria or any other area).

If you're on a European server (as I am) the information is still good, although the link to the creation page may not work and you'll have to manually go to your account to get to the Battletag creator.
