Make sure to open your WTF, go into your WoW1 or 2 account and go into your character's "SavedVariables" folder and edit your NPCScan lua. I've seen a lot of those names before....like Solix and the like. Aren't a lot of those already on live? O_o;

Not these ones, these came from the wowdb and if you click the wowhead link, it'll pop up as not found.

Some of these names are duplicates to NPCs on live or are similar, but the ID numbers are different. Unsure of what that means, if anything.

Anthiss and Karkin definitely exist (Molten Front), as do Bonobos (Valley of the Four Winds, spelled this way instead) and Little Samras (old Hillsbrad).

Ah. Maybe it's some sort of CoT thing?

Also, Solix's ID is 54321 lol! xD

Solix is the orange lava spider in the Molten Front...lesse...yeah the ones Kalli mentioned already exist too on Live. I think Blistermaw also exists.

Doubtful; Little Samras is already there. These are probably just copies of the finalized NPCs, either as works in progress or bases for new NPCs or something to that effect.

He doesn't, but his name did come up recently in regards to possible devilsaur names, which is why it seems more familiar.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about "Ben." I thought immediately of Grizzled Ben, who was added in 5.1, but with his name being so simple, it's hard to tell if there's any connection.

This Ben npc is supposed to be the pet of another npc named Grash Thunderbrew.

If they didn't get into trouble for copying the fundamental concepts of Pokémon for their pet battle system, I doubt using the name "Tyranitar" will cause any problems

I'm not a lawyer, but I think you can't trademark or copyright stuff like fundamental game mechanics, at least not with the differences there are between actual Pokemon and Pet Battles. Names, however, can fall under trademark and if a tm owner doesn't act on it, he may lose it (IIRC).
Would appreciate a response from someone with more knowledge in trademark and copyright laws to confirm or deny.

No you can't copyright stuff like that. Names can be tmed but they can still be used so long as the said name isn't the actual thing in question. Like for example...Pokemon has Tyranitar but if WoW uses the name and it looks nothing like the Pokemon Tyranitar, then it's okay.

Mmmmno. Using the name can still get you into trouble if it's TMed. Basically, it's a matter of whether they think it's important enough to break out the lawyers or not. The more distinctive the name, the more likely of someone making enough noise to be heard.

For instance, Tyranitar, they probably wouldn't get into trouble for simply because it's 'Just another Poke'mon'. However, if they created a creature with the name Pikachu, even if it looked and acted nothing like Pikachu, then the banhammer would come down. The same with the mechanics. Using even the specific concept is shaky, but they have enough differences that lawyers would be able to make it less efficient to just acknowledge that it's influenced heavily by the idea, and might be considered a tribute, but is more a 'remix' than 'a copy'. And, of course, good luck at getting the trademark on a name that's 'ye basic name'.

Copyright-wise, it comes down to whether the person whose right is being infringed wants to stand up and *say* something. If they don't, then it's considered a taciturn acceptance of it and no law is being broken. You don't *have* to demand royalties for someone using your copyrighted stuff.
