Is there anything that needs to be done beforehand to prepare for 5.2?

Such as, is there a certain rep that we are going to need to access the new area that we can prep now? Item level we have to have? Quest lines whatnot that need to be done?

I am wanting to be able to go to new island when 5.2 goes live-but what I am reading makes it sound like there are some preqs for it?

I can't answer any of those questions but I do know you need Ilvl 486 to get into the new LFR.

Aside from the stated ilvl, not that I know of.

486 seems rather excessively high, given that the current LFR drops 476-483(?) gear?

My pally is a few pieces short of being epic'd out, and she's still 480. I imagine it'll be 476 at most for the new LFR when it goes live, as otherwise non-raiders who use LFR as a raiding substitue wouldn't have a hope of getting in.

My main has just hit 390, but aside of LFR I have a few pieces from world bosses, and for a few weeks I've been pumping my valor into upgrades. I really hope it get toned down to 480, though, to give a smooth entry from 5.0 LFRs.

Does upgrading items with valor up their ilvl? that might be a way to pop it up.

If all else fails the items from sha should do it.

ilvl isn't affected by upgrades.

It works.
There are 16 slots of upgradeable items, and max upgrade per item is 8, so you need to 2/2 upgrade 2 items to get total ilvl increase of 1. Max total ilvl increase you can get, after upgarding all of your items, is thus 8.

Yes, it does.

Which means it's possible to get some really strange-looking numbers due to being in-between tiers. A little weird, but it does work.

It does increase the ilevel (4 x 2 for 476+ Epics, 8 x 1 for 458+ Blues), but the UI doesn't show it as yet, although whilst it shows in the tooltip for the gear on the armory, the upgraded ilevel doesn't show on the actual iLevel itself below the slot on the armory.

Really? I remember a tweet from GC not too long ago that appeared on MMO Champion and he said it didn't affect ilvl.

Honestly the only things I can think of right now is upgrading the ilvl of your gear and finishing off any reps you’re working on so you have more free time for new content.
Also taming the “special” pets before they get fixed. Like the new maggots, or appearance buff pets like the tiger with the rotating chain collar- in case they are gone for good next patch.
Maybe save up and get ready for the new JC gems? I think I read we get gem upgrades this patch.

I upgraded one piece last week and my ilvl average went up by a whole point.

Yep, it does, it's just a terribly inefficient way of doing it. Only upgrade items that you know you likely won't replace first. Also, upgrading weapons and trinkets give the biggest bang for the buck in dps increase.

Be sure to finish off the 5.0 and 5.1 Black Prince quests so you can start the next series.

Also get at least battle pets to 25.

I wonder if we'll need to have finished particular quest lines in KLS? For whatever reason, it's the only zone I haven't completed.

I don't think we will, just like you can start on Shieldwall/Dominance without doing a single quest in Karasang.
