Hehe, yes it will be interesting to see the story-line/plot that they choose to pursue with this. There is just so much room for them to work and create something spectacular (or royally botch up) that its anyone's guess atm what the movie will be about.
However I do hope that they will include many loved and important places and people from the game/books into the movie. Although they say that this will be a live action movie...I wonder though how much of it will be really places/people, and how much of it will be CG...

It's bound to go the mostly CGI route with soundstage sets. Or it could go the Hobbit way and be mostly soundstage sets with outdoor scenes and cgi.

I hope it involves the aspects, like Neltharion/Deathwing being driven insane, or Arthas. Maybe some Illidan/War of the Ancients lore, then an ongoing storyline.

Interesting. However, if this doesn't follow the game, let alone the books/lore, then it will be a disappointment.
It's not like a World of Warcraft movie would have a big fanbase of people that aren't interested in the game, so straying from the source material would be a bad decision.
However, too often movies choose this path... so I have mixed feelings.
All I hope is that some hunter pet families are portrayed in Hollywood-CGI awesomeness. Imagine a realistic, fully rendered spirit beast! Or Silithid! Or Wind Serpent!
Even if they're just background scenery, that would make me very happy

Lets just hope it does not turn out like most video game movies and end up sucking big time.

Battleship, anyone?
legit though, I agree with the whole I hope it's tolerable nonsense and follows a feasible plot arc. cause it's true, there will be little outside revenue from non-fans. I'm kind of hoping for Old Gods myself. But then again, dragons. Hmmm.
What I really want though is a nice equal horde/alliance ratio and no huge bias for one or the other. I mean, I'm an Alliance kind of girl myself, but there should be some equal representation between the sides.

This please. I will cry if they manage to make this into a "(Insert faction here) IS EVIL REALLY" movie. I know it's unlikely, judging by the way they've done shades of grey recently, but if they dodge one faction's viewpoint because humans/elves/blah are easier to animate, I will be severely disappointed.
Then again I'm a horde fangirl so I'll be disappointed if it isn't completely equal representation. >.>

I remember when it was first being discussed it would supposedly be an Alliance perspective so that people could "relate" more to the humans or something to that effect. Especially so that non Warcraft audiences could enjoy it. (and perhaps to save money on prosthetics or makeup for non-human races

) I wonder if that still holds now.
I'm...hesitant on the movie myself. While it has the potential to be amazing, I'm just not sure how much of a budget it's going to get or if they'll bother doing any of the really core lore stories. I would kill to see the Arthas saga brought to film, but somehow I don't think they'll go that route. I really hope it'll be good, but I'm not going to have too many expectations until we have a more solid idea of what it'll be based on.
If only they had the sort of team behind it that did LOTR it could be spectacular, but I highly doubt it'll be quite so grandiose.
Regardless, it's exciting news that it's still underway. I hope it can do the franchise justice. It's a shame we couldn't have a movie when WoW was more at the peak of its era.

A good way to skip the whole Horde/Alliance thing is to make it based on another faction. I do wonder what the plot will be as some of the lore while being good as a story I don't think would work that well on screen. Other video game movies have showen us that a story that works well in a game does not all the time work well on screen.
And please for the love of god don't make it like the live action resident evil movies and make it have nothing at all to do with the games. On the other hand the animated movies are really good and they are just set in the same lore and are not based of any game.

It says in the article that they have a budget north of $100 million.
While it's nice to hear they're going to finally start working on this, I have many concerns about it being a live action movie (Blizzard makes such splendid CGI cinematics as is, I would have loved to see one of those as a movie), and I'm worried it'll fall prey to the same fate as other video game movies.
Honestly, if they're going to just up and call the movie Warcraft, then it's not really worth trying to cater it to people not already familiar with the franchise (even if they do change the title it's not worth pandering to those people anyway); trying to do that risks the movie sucking for the heavy, already existing franchise, especially if the movie plot follows a story that's already established. I think if they cater to those of us that are already familiar and in love with the franchise then it could be good and hopefully it'll mean they'll aim to support nearly all the races and not just those most human like.
I'm going to remain neutral about the movie, I think, that way if it's good, that'll be awesome, and I won't be horribly disappointed if it sucks because I didn't overhype myself about it.

I honestly hope they ignore major lore characters and themes (not as in contradict the lore, just not use it for plot) and go with a fresh story. Something that will be accessible to more people than just the fanbase.
Perhaps it'll surprise me but currently I cringe at the thought of a movie made "for the fans". At the risk of sounding like a... well a pretentious wanker... I find a lot of WoW themes to be pulp fantasy at best. Contrived, trite, repetitive, simplistic. Which is perfectly good for the background of a video game. But would, I think, make a truly awful movie.

I loved the WotA books.

I would go see a movie about that!

If they took the plot from some of the in-game books (like
this one) I'd watch it - I'm still holding on to my copy waiting for the level cap to hit 99+...
Overall, I'm not holding my breath for a good movie. I'd be delighted if it turned out great, but given the track record of games-to-movie adaptations I'm not counting on it. I think I agree with Wain that it's likely to be better if it doesn't center on a well-known/major character/event though. Well, here's hoping!

From what I remember back in 2006, it's gonna be Alliance-based. Their reasoning was trying to sell the Horde to the non-WoW viewers was pretty much impossible as Horde were considered monsters for the longest time(til Thrall anyway). That's what their reasoning is. Don't maul the messenger! XD

I'm hoping to see the Third War

or maybe the War of the Ancients. If they start with the War of the Ancients I'm hoping they end with it, no need for another super long running fantasy series based off books like Harry Potter, but in the HP series' defense it was all written by one woman and very cohesive. The WoW lore books are not and some books say one thing while others say another, I'm not going to get in an argument about this, so as bad as Hollywood butchered the HP books on the big screen I would not be willing to see how bad they put that series together.

Maybe they'll write a script that gives the inexperienced viewer a taste of WoW.
Scene 1, the hero will sow some crops, then spend 20 min of the film trying to catch a fish, followed by fulfilling the every whim of a bunch of self-centred locals. They'll then defeat the forces of evil with a group of comrades-in-arms with at least two that are loud, attention-seeking and infantile, and three that attack the wrong thing while standing in patches of flame.
Scenes 2-7: see scene 1.
Personally, I can't wait to see the cast rubbing their hands together and horses and dragons suddenly appearing under them.
