New 'Baby' Raptor Model

Rather new to the Petopia forums, been using the actual site for years though.

Today on the PTR I was exploring the Isle of the Thunder King, and have been spamming almost all (new) beasts and models with Beast Lore.

Fierce Anklebiters are neutral and tiny little raptors that run around Za'Tual in the South Western part of the zone. Managed to tame one :D

(Sorry for the rather large image)

Sorry if this is a repeat post or mention, I looked in these forums and haven't seen anything on it. Just noticed that this has a sort of fresher, more babyish look than the current red raptors.

Edit: The Trained Compys (same model, aggressive) from the Beast Pens are NOT tameable.

They've been mentioned before and I actually just posted a video a couple of days ago: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 00#p413100 :)

Oddly, that post didn't turn up on a forum search. Weird!

Every patch I expect to see them replaced. They look downright weird to me. Like gigantic toys ;)

But maybe they are intentional.

*nods to Wain* I wish the skin was modified a little bit to "fit" the model better. It just feels so tight on them, like they're going to burst out of it! It's a cute look, though, overall.

Its not that bad, looks almost like it has a beak, the only real thing I see about it that is creepy is the eyes...the eyes...

eyes....

sometimes Google works well. Googling "Fierce Ankle Biters Wow Petopia" yielded a few results.

They are sooo cute! I hope they don't change them or make them un-tameable... I love the one I have on the PTR. SO Precious. <3

Sadly they are now small again, and untameable.

Sigh.

It doesn't look good, folks.

1. They've shrunk after being tamed.
Image

2. They have extremely low health... Blizz uses this as a symbol of "don't get attached to this pet, kiddo" like with the snakes of vanilla, before they were added as a family in BC. And (sniff) more recently, the Yaks and Mushan.
Image

3. They don't have an icon in the "call pet" slot anymore.
Image

4. Perhaps the most decisive of all of these things, they no longer have a diet and cannot be tamed.
Image

5. No screenshot for this, but they have no default abilities: no growl, or Tear Armor. Only the abilities that come from choosing their talent spec.

The Ability to Tame Fierce Anklebiters
Early 2013 - Early 2013
"We were just too lazy to give them a model that didn't look awkward when upscaled"
"It was too good to be true."

Huh, it seems really strange that they'd make these guys not tamable. I wonder if that'll stick or not, it seems very random. I mean, Mushan/yaks I get. But this is just a reskinned raptor. O.o

It is, but it's a skin that wasn't meant to work on a large beast :)

Also, the majority of Compies on the island already could not be tamed. Some were untameable, some friendly, some caged. It looks like these had just been overlooked.

What would be cool is if they had given them a distinctive skin that did look right when enlarged. They could have used the devilsaur skins, if they had added a mask and a feather texture (like they did for the mounts), for example:

They'd look very sleek :)

I kinda saw this coming. They didn't look like something meant to be tamed...like taking a baby away from it's mom too early.

I don't mind the devilsaur on raptor skin, the teeth are a bit peculiar, and it's unlikely I'd tame one because of it, but they aren't inherently bad. Babies on big raptors though is just terrifying. There really isn't a discernible nose or mouth, more or less. It's kind of like if Voldemort was a velociraptor.

I love the razor teeth :)

But the Voldermort thing is hilarious and true. Actually, it also reminds me of a huge soft toy. Maybe they could sell them at the Darkmoon Faire :)
