Either that or it's a bug. I've died to random fall damage with no one around before. :/

I had that once, but then just guessed I'd flown through one of Alani's "Gas" clouds after she had a heavy day on the beans.
She was the only thing in the area and just quitely just flew away (I swear! people who just drop them and run off! Errk!)

It can't be the shell because you can only use it on hostile targets.
