Is it time to end the "Stalker" series of armor?

First off, I get the lore and story behind the Stalker series, and I love the name, fits hunters so well.
But..
It appears whatever class armor designer behind the hunter gear since Cata really hasn't tried that hard. Murlocs? Yaks? and now Sauroks? Really?
These sets have been terrible in comparison to what other classes have gotten over the past 3 years. I'm SOOOOO tired of the "hey, look what I just killed, I'm WEARING it, DURRR" line of thinking in the hunter designs.
In contrast, the PVP sets, especially in MOP have been decent, and I'll be farming honor just so I can buy that set so I can wear something new. The newest PVP set retains the feel of a "stalker" set without the lameness of some low-level mob skin. Why can't the PVE set be that way?

I like all the ones since Cata. So I disagree.

Do you like them over the PVP sets? If so, then what we have here is a real difference in style preferences...

I actually like them over the PVP sets as well. I disagree with your notion to end them, and honestly some of the old ones were pretty strangely designed also.
"Giantstalker?" Why would you want to wear giants?
"Cryptstalker?" That's even more ridiculous, crypts are inanimate objects and can't be stalked!
"Gronnstalker?" Why would you skin giant mountain-beasts and only use their heads for armor? Who wants eyeballs all over their body?
You can make just about any of those item sets sound silly.

Giantstalker, yeah, that was a bad set too. Gronnstalker was great, IF you were an Orc, otherwise not so much.
My fav tier sets were the Northrend ones. I loved that they got into more realistic looking gear.
Looking back at the old sets...
I'm a fan of tier 7, 9, and 10 (minus that horrid helm). The rest... meh at best. Tier 4 is good too, but doesn't work on a dwarf.
If you want to see these all together on different races, go here...

In general I suppose I'm not the biggest fan of hunter armor because it rarely employs colours and themes that appeal to me. I tend to like the PvP sets a bit more, but I still like the stalker sets as a whole because they suit the class, regardless of my personal preferences. The yaungol and saurok ones are a couple that I actually really like! The horns on the yaungol slayer are
awesome, and I just love the colours on the normal mode set. I can't wait to get my dino hunter armor in 5.2 as well.
As for Tiers, my personal favourites are 2.5, 4 (though I prefer the PvP colouring), 8, and 13.

The AQ40 one is my all time fave. I just need a matching blet and gloves but they both drop from the Twins D:

Me too... I've been farming them for over a month now and all I really need is the gloves. Nobody makes the blacksmith equivalent, at least not as far as I've seen.
The belt would be nice too, but I have the dragonstalker belt and that's both color-correct and period. At least it drops from the same twin.
At the moment I have the pvp dragon hat and shoulders and I don't want to mog those... so there's no insane need, really.
Edit: To voice my minority opinions: I love the gronnstalker design, though not the colour... so the Vengeful Gladiator's set is perfect for me. I used it until my sets got replaced in MoP.
I also love the tier 10 helm. Perfect headbutt gear.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of hunter gear, I tend to drool over warlock, druid and shaman sets mainly. In fact, I often bewail the fact that almost all our sets are so damn ugly...but to each their own!
I suppose I slightly favour PvP gear over the raid stuff, and no, I'm not much of a fan of attaching decapitated heads on my shoulders...
Personal choices would be tier 8, and arena season sets 1, 9 and 10.

With all the differing opinions about who likes what in this thread, it brings up the same ole point: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But the wonderful thing about Blizzard adding transmogrification is that if you don't like the look of the gear you're wearing, you can make it look like something you do like. And the nice thing about Petopia here is that there's a lot of us that share sets we put together, whether it comes from assembling a full stock set or it comes from mixing and matching different pieces from all over the place. I doubt there's any shortage of looks one can choose from around here

My fiancee had a rather colorful joke comment about where she would put a pair of extra eyeballs on the female body so guys "would actually be looking her in the eyes" when they talked to her...

Yeah, I think there's enough variety even within the hunter sets themselves that there's bound to be something for everyone, and if not, transmog is our friend.

Indeed, and true...
But it would be nice for a change to wear those hard-fought new gear items, as well as something new. At least there's the PVP set..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0l4T9kRlBE Listen to the 1st 30 seconds of that and you will understand, it says I'm beast stalker ie I stalk beasts ect. you are not "wearing" giants you are stalking them, you can stalk crypts ie. you are stalking in them (I'm a crypt stalker not a stalker of crypts) and Gronnstalker is one of (if not the) most favorite of all Hunter tiers, ever

(and who doesn't like have giant blinking eyes on them, weirding out their guildies in a raid

) Anyways I really like the stalker sets and was disappointed when they stopped using them (Windrunner sounds like a Shaman thing to me).I do agree that stalking things like yaks and murlocks is rather depressing for one has stalked demi-gods and dragons, sauroks are ok I guess at least they can put up a good fight. I like being feared by dragons and giants and other big bad things other ppl can't solo (save for maybe DKs) and having a set named after that just makes it better (you can't tell me having someone stalk you isn't scary) I really wish they made a super long Hunter quest that gave you the title "Stalker" at the end of it. That is my take on it.

So... let me ask this...
What are we going to get when Garrosh is the final boss? Are we going to wear his head for a hat, or are we going to get something like boar-stalker, because those little boars outside of Org are so dangerous... O.o

Don't know, don't care. If the set doesn't look appealing to me, I'll just mog it to something I do like.

I guess my real rant in this is that once in a while, wearing something new is cool, not having to go back to BC and Wrath dungeons and raids to get gear...

Think of it in connection to the titles we earned from past endgame bosses -- Kingslayer, Bane of the Fallen King, Death's Demise, Savior of Azeroth. By the time toons were running around with those titles, raiding hunters were likely wearing the corresponding sets -- which generally indicated that we were using the enemy's tools or the likeness of their minions against them, as much as (if not more than) trophies from the bosses themselves.
It was precisely because Wyrmstalker was so popular that I chose to mog over it. Not because it wasn't bad ass, but because I wanted to maintain my own identity in the clumps of hunters that inevitably bunched up in raids.
As for Garrosh, a whole array of titles streams across the imagination, along the lines of "Tyranny's Downfall," "Megalomaniac's Doom," etc. The sets could follow any number of themes from military uniforms to revolutionary garb. What would bring us to confront him en masse, though? Would it be actions he committed in Pandaria or in Azeroth? The nature of what turns both factions against him, and where, should be important factors.

Sorry if I sound unsympathetic, I just have a lot of sets ranging from Vanilla to MoP already to choose from, with the Contender's set + the good ole #54 rifle being the latest one I've taken a liking to. Most of my toons already have practically no bank space, so unless the newest sets coming out appeal to me enough that I'd jettison an existing set to make room for it, the idea of whether or not new armor themes come out means little to me.

As you can see from my sig, Wyrmstalker (modified) is my fav set, and probably will stay so forever. I just love dragons, especially the bronzes, but Dragonstalker was good for a sissy elf, not for a badbutt dwarfette
As for the other pve sets I have Gianstalker (minus the helm - I use a simple mail circlet for it) and Windrunner (for pvp mog - nothing says Alliance like good ol' blue-and-gold with a few lions here and there, and it matches the 5.1 gryphon's armor perfectly), and plan on getting Riftstalker or one of it's recolors someday, maybe. I don't really care much for the rest, but I guess it's ok - with the mog we can just have our pick after all.
I have to agree though that our pvp sets tend to look better. I've been rather indifferent at our current season, though, but that's just because it didn't look good on a dwarfette - the hat was turning her into a mushroom - I loved it on humans, elves and others too-tall-for-their-own-good. I do like the upcomming one very much, even though I probably won't be getting it till next season, and I loved the previous ones (again, the skined-tauren set with a simple mail circlet for head slot) since WotLK up.

Doesn't our challange set already look like we've not only skined a wolf, but his orc rider/master, too?
