Meet Volos!

He was found on my own server, but I give many thanks to the hunters who helped me and invited me to their realm.
If you're curious, the name was a suggestion in a previous "name-that-chimera" thread, and it was a god of the underworld and of horned creatures. Pretty fitting for this new tame.

I'm now searching for Arcturis and, sadly, competition is high on Moon Guard's CRZ group. If anyone could help me get this bear, I'll love you forever!

I actually just caught my Arcturis last Saturday. It took me a total of 25 hours of straight camping. I began on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm until my tame at 4:52pm Saturday afternoon. It would have been sooner because at 9:15pm Friday night he spawned, and while during my time another Alliance hunter killed him because I had gotten the tag first, even though I had been camping for 7 hours at this point.

My only advice is that if you have the time, to just camp. I found that for the most part, if a hunter notices you camping patiently, they are willing enough to let you have the tame. That isn't said for everyone, but the hunters who have ethics are generally respectful, whether it is horde or alliance. It will happen eventually. It just takes patience.

Fi ally, once you do get the time, it is an awesome feeling. He is an awesome pet. Probably my favorite.

I camped for about 1 hour before a 90 hunter came by and repeatedly killed me, through some screwed-up CRZ malfunction. I was never flagged.
So I gave up for the day.

On my main, I got all my rares just by flying over their spawnpoints once or twice a day (except for Loque.)

Hey bro! I just got Arcturis myself, and with all the competition because everybody and their dog knows where he is, he can be a toughie. I was lucky enough to tame mine while the two other hunters were pvping eachother and the spawn killing ganker was afk ^__^

But enough about me- After about 4 days of hard, grueling camping I figured out his pattern and nuances. I just decided to share because well, we're all fellow hunters aren't we?
I deduced from the internet and my own timing that he runs a 6-12 hour spawn timer, and rotates said timers in an erratic fashion, such as
12hr-12hr-6hr-12hr-6hr. What I did was hard camp him when I could, and checked at his spawn timers when I couldn't. I was never disappointed, and after 5 failed attempts I had it down pat Once you learn the last time he'd been killed/tamed you can get a decent estimate of when he'll pop back up.

Also, he never spawns down by the waterbank. A lot of people thought he did and camped down there, but he spawns directly on the hill, in the middle ground between road and waterbank. Stay towards the middle!

I made a macro for when he popped up, because at one point my panic for button finding to tame him killed him. My macro was

/cleartarget
/target Arcturis
/cast Tame Beast

And it caught me my bear! Also, NPCScan is a MUST for this pet. As well as Glyph of Tame Beast, to lower your risk of a ganker killing the bear before your tame.

Well, my ramble is over. I just wanted to give a fellow hunter some tips that helped me get my bear. And if I'm ever on when you are, I'll invite you to my realm for a quick look!

I'd like to thank you quite a lot for this! Even though NPCScan hadn't gone off, I decided to check to make sure I hadn't gotten logged off.
