RAF question

I have a friend Id like to have join me in WoW.

Obviously, I'd like for us to get the RAF exp bonus as we level.. and another mount doesn't hurt either.

Now, I know if I send him an invitation, he gets an email saying to "click this link" to download the game.

But what if I bought him a physical copy of the game? This week, the whole game is more than half price. And his birthday is coming up, so...

How do we get around the RAF thing with a physical copy of the game? Can we even use RAF if he has the game disks?

I think physical is just for downloading. I think you have to make the account and upgrade it with the code in the box, perhaps...? I dunno, I have raf'd; haven't been raf'd

You can go ahead and refer them-it is not actually giving them the game just a trial. That sends them a link to say they have accepted the referral and that they can start downloading the game.

With their physical copy they can input their game time/code and actually update their referred/trial account to a full game account and add the different expansions (they have to get all of them WOW, Burning Crusade, WOTLK, MOP-but there is a sale going on in the blizz store for all of them right now isnt there?).

At least that is how I remember it working when I did what you described to get my best friend a referral and gifted her with a copy of the game.
