Isle of Giants Question

I've been out of the WoW loop for the past few months and the only thing I knew about 5.2 was that I really needed to tame a Direhorn, lol. Sorry if this is a dumb question but are there no daily quests on the Isle of Giants? I've googled it and all I'm getting are that it's an island full of hunter pets, mobs dropping companion pets, and I think rares that drop mounts. The only new dailies I'm finding are on the other island that you port to from the Shadopan place. Am I missing anything?

As far as I know, the only quests on the Isle of Giants are the ones for turning in bones.

Isle of Giants is basically just a time sink zone for people to grind out vanity pets, a new mount, and Hunters to get a special tome to tame Direhorns. Incidentally, it toke me close to 80 Dinomancer kills to finally get the tome. I know this because I had that many giant dino bones in my bag when it finally dropped, and the dinomancers always dropped just one. I won't get into how many D-Bags (Hunters and non-Hunters) tried to train crap on me during that time, or purposely try to disrupt my CCing when I needed it at times.

Heh, I let a troll hunter die when he tried training a bunch onto me.

He died.

He also got the last laugh, since his book dropped long before mine. >_<

Thanks guys! I have to say though that that's quite a bit of work gone into Isle of Giants just for vanity items and hunter pets. That's why I thought I was missing something totally obvious. They can always add stuff later if they choose I suppose.

I noticed a good bit of jerkish behavior there last night when I was going after dinomancers by myself. Fortunately, a few guildies were up there and we kind of claimed one of the camps for ourselves. Those guys go down pretty fast when two hunters, a boomkin, and elemental shaman are beating on them. Even saw one start to cast his heal when he was at about 10%. He never even changed into a dino.

I've also encountered similar bad behavior on the Isle of Thunder. A couple times, I think people were trying to deliberately train mobs onto other people. Then there's the new tapping mechanic for big quest mobs. I've no problem with the original mechanic that allows anyone who does some damage on tougher quest mobs to get credit, but it's annoying to charge in as a prot warrior, start beating one down and then have someone come up, hit it once, thus boosting its health, then run off and wait for me to kill the thing for 'em.

I can't believe it won't be connected to the Explorer's League or some other group. There is a flight point and there also is a camp of Dwarf archaeologists there. I wouldn't be surprised if a quest to go there was added at some point. Having it something that is just hinted at with no directions given to get there doesn't make much sense.

As far as the Dinomancers go, I have no problem soloing them with any pet specced as ferocity. ( I don't ever spec a pet any other way, even my Direhorn is Ferocity) They almost never even get to start doing a heal but just switch to Direhorn form and die soon after. I think in the 10-12 I had to kill to get the book, I only used Silencing Shot twice.

I'm surprised Nesingwary isn't somewhere on that island handing out big game quests.

I knew I was missing something in there. Sounds like a perfect place for Ol' Hemet, making an InGen parody.

But the entire Jurassic Park crew is there; we don't need Nesingwary. ;)

(Re: the troll I mentioned earlier, the training might not have been intentional, since afterward he hung around watching me kill dinomancers - unsuccessfully - for a while. But the next guy DEFINITELY did it on purpose. :| )

It is also the home to one of the new world raid bosses, Oondasta... Who is a MASSIVE mask wearing devilsaur who was having a blast wiping 50+ raid groups on the PTR. Looks like the most dangerous ability of his, Spiritfire Beam, was just nerfed in a hotfix, so don't know how scary he still is.

The way I see it, they added the zone to give him a home, then tossed in everything else trying to avoid having an empty zone except when the boss is up.

Correct, only the trolls (Dinomancers) drop the Tome.

Killing dire horns (and other dinosaurs) will give you bones which you can collect to purchase the minipet or white raptor mount.

On the upside, you probably got more progress towards the white devil-raptor!
