Soloing elites and receiving invites/whispers

How do you guys handle when you get whispers and ninja group invites when you are soloing something that drops valuable loot you want (like the Zandalari Warbringers)?

Do you just accept the invitation or do you continue soloing?

I personally choose to solo because 1- I enjoy the challenge and 2- guarantees I get the valuable loot if it drops. I put in the work and I get it. I don't steal tags, I move on if someone else is camping a spawn, I dont harass or grief. But if I get a mob fair and square, I end up getting a bunch of whispers and invites, and Im not trying to be a dick, but Im doing this solo for a reason.

How do you all handle that?

Usually I ignore them, I am to busy trying to stay alive. However, If I feel that I've bitten off more then I should have, then help might be better (die and no loot, or group and chance the dice). So far though I've only ever taken on the Warbringer's with Magnakilro, he on his hunter and I on my Healer. It can be rough...especially the other day...a druid decided to try dragging the mob away from us and through the mogu ruins/mobs, but we doggedly kept up keeping our tag, and keeping alive.

It depends on how I'm doing. If I'm doing okay, then I'll ignore them. If I'm not, I'll invite them. Oddly enough, most people who ask have done so when I've been having a rough round. When I'm not, people generally just watch and/or leave. I haven't had anyone ask on the warbringers thus far who hasn't earned their keep. I haven't seen a mount drop either, so there's that too.

Depends. If I only just tagged the mob, I'll gladly group up. If there's multiple people of my faction camping the same spot, I'll ask if they'd like to form a group. But if I've soloed the mob down to low health by the time they start asking for an invite, I'll just finish it on my own.

Had someone do the latter on me yesterday - the person was just floating there, obviously hoping to see me fail. When the Warbringer's health was down to 20%, they started asking for an invite. As if I'm going to do that, when I've done all the hard work and they've spent the whole time just hovering about on their Cloud Serpent. Had they come in to help sooner (or heck, started helping me as soon as they wanted into my group!), I would've gladly accepted, but as it stood, they were just hoping to get free loot for no work.

See, I have no quarrel against helping others down these guys, even if they're opposite faction. I know how tough it can be and how easy it is to lose your tag because of a single mistake. Sure if the person has been an ass to me before, I'll just stand back and watch the show, but that's just payback. Similarly, if they've been nice and helpful, I might just let them tag it first and then help them kill it.

I've seen three of the mounts drop so far - first one went to a Hunter I met while farming these guys, and I got the second. Third went to Lirithiel for having been there to help me in a lot of kills, and since he'd passed on the earlier two.

I didn't have anyone asking for invite yet. Either it was me helping someone else without requesting anything back, or just once both me and another player attacked the mob nearly at the same time and the player got the tag but invited me (and shared one of the two items it dropped - still grateful for that one).

Most of the time, it's people being jackasses and trying to kill me in some way to get my tag. The most obnoxious one was two people flagging themselves for PvP and jumping in circles around me trying to get into my AoE to flag me (so they can kill me). (They failed)

IF someone actually asked me, I would most of the time oblige and share any potential loot. I would maybe grumble a word if I didn't get something I needed, but I would just carry on - like I always do when shit happens.

If someone asks before I pull, I'll generally accept an invite and I've grouped for a number of Warbringer kills this way. But if I have already pulled I consider it mine (one persistent person tried to invite me 3 times during a single Warbringer kill, while his group mate whispered me). And after having one stolen from me I've learned to really manage my abilities and aggro on them, to make sure I don't lose the tag.

Sometimes well meaning people will jump in to help and I've been saved twice by other hunters getting an aggroed Scout off me, but a lot of times a "rescue" attempt only makes things worse by throwing off my rhythm and distracting me. Just wish people would just leave kiting hunters and locks alone when they can see the player is doing fine... I have the feeling they're secretly hoping I'll fail right at the end so they can get the kill instead.

Had someone say he needs like 9 August Celestial stolen reps and I was tired and kept dying to the warbringer lol so I added him to the group and for the next 4-5 hours we helped each other out he got his 9 reps eventually I got an amber direhorn and got exalted with 3 reps so I'd say it was good that I invited him :)

Wanted to battle tag him but he didnt want to so too bad for that, but the rest was awesome!

Edit: Oh and before this guy I got the slate direhorn from a solo that some guys helped me with I thanked them and showed the mount and got a fck off in response tbh I don't think they realised they were helping me and got angry when they found out... But the mounts don't have a bad drop rate so I don't see what the anger was about, I was clearly the first person to attack and on my realm there's nothing wrong with that because there's a lot of griefers here and people stealing rares right from under my nose so even though ill leave people alone with the rare if I see anyone nearby I won't always have a mood for it because ill know that people won't do the same for me.

This actually happened to me the other day. I started soloing a warbringer and a lone shaman tried to invite me into a group but I declined. I had seen at least six mounts drop with losng rolls before-hand, and to be honest I was really tired of seeing that. The only time I'll group with people for things like that is if I;m friends with them or at least know them. This was a complete stranger and after I declined he called me a bitch a few times along with some other uncreative insults. This is how Warbringers go on my server, though. You either have a group of friends or you learn how to solo. The competition is really strong and I wanted to get those mounts out of the way.
But yeah if a friend wanted some help or wanted to join me, sure thing.
There was one time when I was having trouble kiting (before I found out that my turtle could tank them fine with the help of some glyphs and talents) and I let a watching group (who for some reason couldn't take him on.. O.o) invite me (and then I lost another mount, that was joyful. >.>). But yeah.

tl;dr: Generally I believe that if you have the ability to solo them then you have every right to do so.

I also have a very bad roll when it comes to groups and mounts or even back in wotlk gear....

I never won anything that people needed I only won what no one needed which was sad but meh nothing I could do about it...
It's been slightly better over the years but not by much.

I really noticed my turtle takes a loads of damage barely keeping up with it even with (spirit bond, glyph of animal bond and the mending glyph) so i am wondering if i am missing something then?

right now i just tend to kite them as surv with a wind serpent and that goes pretty oke atm. already managed to get the slate direhorn.

When it comes to inviting it really depends if its guildie that breeze by then i usually tend to inv them unless i the warbringer is already low on health < 50%
with stranges it depends.

what i did learn after being ganked on one of them is ti pull them away as far as possible from the spawn point.

and for the warbringer in dreadwaste there are 2 very handy klaxxi buffs angel of death (awesome on scarabs or ninja pulls of adds when kiting) or raining blood. and speed kings makes kiting easy :P

Gear matters.

Kalliope's turtle tanks better than Kallimon's turtle.

I understand why someone would whisper and ask for an invite or if I wanted help, I get that.

I despise ninja invites to ANYTHING from the core of my being. It got to the point I installed an addon that autoblocked invites from anyone not on my friends list or guild, but got rid of it cuz I don't want to appear like an anti-social dillhole.

I can usually handle the warbringers without a problem, but I think what I call "a problem" and what others think is different. I think if people see my pet die or me take a hit they assume I need help. No, no I'm fine. I appreciate the notion, but I think these genuine desires to help are about 3% of my case.

No, the most I get are people that get pissed you don't invite them. The entitled crowd. They whisper hateful things and then try to taunt grief you and bring other mobs in.

OK first of all, I'm a hunter. There is little you can do to grief me. If I don't want a mob, I can get rid of it. Taunt battle? I can do that do, and that actually helps me keep up a better rotation. I let an ignorant paladin once take the warbringer, get feared, and die, before. Idiots. Unless you are lucky enough to glitch it out, all you are doing is helping me.

I also hate the kind that will come and camp alongside you, which implies a tag war. If I see someone camping a spot, I move on. I understand competetion, and if people were actually good sports, I wouldn't mind it. And of course this behavior has happened since there has been rares to camp, even pets. I don't understand why a second hunter would camp alongside a first camping hunter, whats the end game here? But thats neither here nor there.

Wow, I agree with so much of this. Sometimes people do seem to jump in because they see me take a hit (or the pet dies) and figured I'd die without intervention. But I can take a few hits and I can afford to lose the pet if it comes down to it. Worst case scenario, I'd FD and lose the tag, oh well, it's my own fault.

I've tried taking advantage of people attempting to steal away the mob by telling myself it's just additional DPS to bring it down faster. And yes I've let a competing player get aggro and get feared before. :) Actually I find that pretty funny.

I'd say it's 50/50 if people will just leave if they see someone camping. I'm not interested in sitting on another player and I'll leave if someone's already there, unless it looks like they're just doing a lookaround before going. But if I'm there first and been waiting a while, I'm not inclined to leave if someone else comes along.

Well I don’t need the rep tokens and I can share the bags so sometimes I invite others just for the sake of letting someone else enjoy the loot I don’t want. I accept or throw out invites if I have met them before and know they are respectable players or if they decided to try and help me without asking for an inv first. Usually when I do this, I’m not planning on camping for very long so I’m not too worried about what drops.
But if I’m one of the only people camping, they ask for an inv because they tried to grab the tag first and failed, or if I feel like I’m doing well soloing and plan on farming for a few hours, I usually keep the tag to myself.
I really noticed my turtle takes a loads of damage barely keeping up with it even with (spirit bond, glyph of animal bond and the mending glyph) so i am wondering if i am missing something then?
Ping Pong the mob! :D keep your pet on passive and use concussive shot/ distracting shot to kite him around a safe area. You want to hold threat over your pet 80% of the time. I only send my pet in to tank while I eat the fears. Then I blow my cds and put him on passive and use distracting shot a few seconds after I see shell shield pop. It takes a while to kill him but it’s not too hard. I also save stampede for emergency’s where my pet dies.

I got told I made a "dick move" once when fighting the rare that drops the rep incense because I didn't invite them. I wasn't willing to share the loot and could down him quite easily. I felt bad at first because what if they only wanted it for the achi? A quick look at their armoury told me they already had it, they just wanted to ninja my loot so like others have said it depends. In this case no, I was already at 20% hp left anyway, I'd put in more work. Harder to kill things and things that don't drop anything worth noting I don't mind inviting.

Overall though I'd just rather be left alone so I ignore. Every time I fight Krol, Nalash and Karr I get that dread that someone will come along and ask for an inv. They are 3 rares I've been killing since hitting lvl 90 without a single pet or elixir drop, I'd rather not share but I feel bad if I don't. :/ Is that silly?

Well personally what annoy me the most is the inviting before saying or whispering thing.
i was soloing the townlong warbringer last night it was around 70% i think and a druid came along
after the patch they already became quite hard because the immunities so you dont really have time to whisper or talk while kiting. so I ignored it and then the druid wispers he doesnt need the mount.

I dont get it why people dont whisper before hand I always do. It isn't exactly that I will one shot it in 5 seconds flat or anything right now XD.

But in the end I invited him/her because I am purely doing it for the mount anyway rest is just bonus for me anyway.
