Selling arrows in singles for the price of a stack scam

The "steal from a hunter" button

The AH has, built in to its base functionality, a button. It's big, red and when pushed, takes a small amount of gold from a distracted hunter and puts it into your bags. It's a rotten, nasty trick that I feel should be a bannable offense. Basically, the icon for a stack of, say, Iceblade Arrows looks close enough to the stack of a 1,000 iceblades that maybe every 100th hunter who searches for their ammo for raid that night will accidentally buy a single arrow being listed for sale by an unscrupulous jerk instead of a stack being listed by an honest engineer.

I've seen this done on my server. Some people are so greedy. :/

Hehehehe. I once remember the time where I thought they were selling the arrows in stacks of one hundered. They seemed cheap too, 7 gold a stack.

Turns out they were a thousand.

I ended up with about 27,000 arrows. xD

But it only takes 5 seconds to eye the stack size.

If you read through it evidently there is some glitch so people assume they are getting a full stack, not a single arrow, that's where the scam is coming in.

And tbh this is horrible, sure I rip people off with my ore and my gems and flasks on alts that can make them, but I don't go and put one flask up for the price of 20, or one ore or one gem, I put the full stack or the avrage [5 for flasks] or a single gem, mean ripping people off is the name of the game but I don't scam people out of their items when I do it.

Auctioneer is the solution. It shows a "price per amount" next to the buyout price. On these scams it usually 999%, while a normal stack should be close to 100%. Less is always good. More is bad.

This has happened on my server as well. Usually I can get Iceblades for 7g/1k, but I saw a few for that price and it was one arrow. Not hard to see the 1000 or 100 on the icon- at least for me. It does throw one off for a quick second until you realize the arrow amount is missing, then you realize the trickery. Technically as shady and scammy as it may seem, it really isn't 'illegal' in the sense of the arrow amount being clearly displayed. I don't agree with people doing it, but it's allowed to be done, just the same way the person back years ago sold an X360 box on ebay for a few hundred. Yes, just the box, empty, nothing inside. Why was that legal? He wrote in the description that it was just the box, nothing else, albeit in small print, it was still there. This also applies to loot cards on ebay. They sell them 'cheap' and turn out to be a scratched, redeemed card. So many people, in their purchasing frenzy, don't check fine print- in WoW's case- the arrow amount. Word of the wise- be careful when purchasing ANYTHING, ANYWHERE, especially when the deal seems really good, or too good to be true- because sometimes it is...

In my guild we try to have every possible trade skill for exactly that reason. people can't be trusted. And considering there are only 4-5 active people in my guild, that's a pretty good trick to pull off. Mighty are the alts for they shall furnish the rest of us!

This isn't about a deal to good though, as someone has said in the thread there's evidently a bug going on with the AH. Hell I've had it myself for other reasons, I put up something for 170g it puts it up for 900 gold. Half the time my auctions bug, and people are evidently doing something for the search for price IE they assume that everything at the same price is 1k arrow stacks, and turns out it's not. Hell I've been scammed that way myself when mass buying cloth and ended up getting a stack of 10 or 15 and payed the ful price.

It's not that it's illegal it's just Lack of Morality. IE a guy is proud to rip people off, trick them out of their money, without rendering all goods that people want or expect.

Just because oh they said in small print etc etc, doesn't make it fine. The point of the matter is people are profiting from scamming basically, and no one sees anything wrong with it.

As I said I rip people off; but I don't charge 70 gold for 5 fel iron ore. It's the full damn stack.

First off, I never said it was fine. It is a moral issue. As for ripping people off, if they hit the 'buy' button, that's all on them, no? I mean, no one has a gun to their head saying 'BUY IT OR DIE'. Just like lazy people looking for low level mats complain the prices are bloated... then farm them yourself for free!
Perhaps there is a bug, or you guys are having addon problems, but I haven't encountered this problem when listing auctions, nor have my guildies who play the AH daily. What I said was clearly stating that yes, scams are bad, and it is wise to alert the general public, but for Pete's sake WATCH what you are buying- don't assume, assuming makes an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me' ;)

Ryai, it's not exactly small print. Its actually pretty big print. If there's a bug with the AH, then Blizz are the ones to blame. Besides, there are many addons that can take care of the problem. You can't blame the scammers for getting scammed.

ENRON

Really, you don't even have to look at the image to see the stack size, as there is a stack listing.

Or they don't have access to the pattern or they gave up Eng for another skill or they don't have time to farm the mats and need the arrows now. Or the mats aren't available on the AH. Or their eng isn't high enough in level yet. Or etc etc.

No different than buying food and etc. If you can't make it you gotta buy it; but that said no one is forcing you to buy them, and it's really just for epeen dps as I do just fine with my Saronite bullets n' Arrows.
