I have no idea if this story is true or not, but I thought it was pretty cool. And since there is a hunter reference in it, I of course had to share it with you! It's been circulating around Facebook.

I'm fairly sure it's true. It's also very old, at least 2-3 years, because I've read it before.

This is old but I think I remember seeing something that said this was completely fake. I'm talking to my fiance now and he saw it too.
It was written by the Internode Games Network (IGN) as an April Fools.

Somewhere buried deep in these forums is a thread about this from years ago. Still an amazing story though :)

I dont see this being true in any way, plus he put himself and his sister in danger, how exactly did he taunt? x3 plus I agree, after "feigning death" how did it not go for the sister again? it cant have taken so long for the moose to get to him, surely it would go after the sister again.

I call B.S :P

while I agree that it is probably a fake, don't forget that a moose is not a "predator", so if the sister has gotten some distance between herself and the moose in the time the boy taunted it, then the moose will basically ignore her.

I live in moose country.

best comment on this story:

"thank god he didn't play a Shaman.. by the time he found four pieces of wood and painted them bright colours, his sister would have been a goner!"

(and yes, this story has been around at least since 2007)

Most things that circle around Facebook tend to be really old photos/stories, etc that get a new "twist" on them to try and appeal people into reading them, clicking like, sharing, commenting, etc. Usually you can check snopes.com to see if they're real, or do a quick Google search.

This one is definitely old but not sure if it's real or not as my brief search didn't yield much to disprove it (I'm also really tired). Amusing little story either way.

I agree and also it's the same for Tumblr too. A lot of that stuff can be made up too. Always handy to do a little google search or what not.

Actually, I believe this one is legit. It was originally posted in the Norwegian news paper "Nettavisen" (roughly translated as "The Net News") here. If you don't happen to read Norwegian, Google does a passable job at a translation. Note that this story was posted 20 Nov 2007, well away from 1 Apr. While that puts it somewhat past "drunk moose" season*, moose tend to be generally grouchy at the best of times, so it's not entirely unbelievable that this did in fact happen. As to the fact checking standards of this particular news paper I have no special knowledge.

*) No, I'm not joking. Moose like apples. A lot. Late autumn however the only ones left are the fermenting ones on the ground, which apparently are better than no apples at all from their point of view. It does however lead to slightly intoxicated moose getting more aggressive than usual. Dad always was torn whether to try to scare off the visitors from his apples trees - he too likes apples. A lot. =)

Yes, that's what I turned up in my searches too, that that news source was reliable and people who could read Norwegian were vouching for it.

There are several moose stories on snopes, but nothing that comes up in any combination with boy, sister, wow, warcraft etc. and I've been using snopes to put family internet scares and hoaxes to rest since the 90s.

WoW insider has always vouched for this story too, and as they tend to bristle with journalistic pride you'd think they'd check their sources.
