Just wondering...

Because remember, nobody knew about Garwal until months in, so we never know what we miss...

Has anyone actually gone around with a beast tracker and looked at EVERYTHING in WoW, specifically dragonkin & WotLK content?

I've found some proto-drakes that, while "Cannot be tamed," are beast-classified--specifically Blighted Proto-Drakes and Hyldnir Meet Drakes (whatever the green-named ones flying around the Temple of Storms are, also Cannot be tamed).

Just wondering how many creatures there are out there mislabeled beasts, and if there's any teensy weensy chance any creature is tameable. Maybe if folks pool mislabeled creature info together it can help point us to new discoveries? ;D

Edit: Adding a table to the start of the post so that I can update it in a more visible place! See details throughout the post. Red means Can't be Tamed (or possibly Can't be Beast Lored), Green is tameable. Orange is tameable but controlled or friendly, so technically untameable despite Beast Lore saying otherwise. "Mislabeled" means the creature shows as Beast on Mouseover or Tracker, despite clearly being a Dragonkin or Critter, etc. Possible new tameables are simply mobs I've found that aren't on Petopia's list, and which I'm unsure about.

*Blighted Proto-Drake (Storm Peaks)
*Savage Proto-Drake (Icecrown)
*Umpi (Hillsbrad Foothills)
*Shattertusk Bull (Dead, Sholazar Basin)
*Trapped Animal (Dead, Howling Fjord)
*North Sea Shark (Dead, Icecrown)
*Opus (Burning Steppes)
*Khadgar's Servant (Shattrath, spawned)
*Carrion Devourer etc (Eastern Plaguelands) +
*Serpentbloom Snake (The Barrens)
*Snowshoe Hare (Dragonblight)
*Njorndar Proto-Drake (Icecrown)
*Jotunheim Proto-Drake (Icecrown)


Possible new tameables:
(none)

Tameable but Controlled/Friendly:
*Young Venomhide Ravasaur (Un'goro Crater) Tameable, but Friendly to both factions.
*Warhawk (ICC: Controlled by Ymirjar Huntress)
*Dire Wolf (Mount Hyjal, controlled by Horde Shaman or Thrall)

+ Means the mob isn't mislabeled as such, but doesn't seem to quite fit as Beast, either.

It's a good idea. I'll keep my eyes open. You never know.

Seconding; I'll keep my eyes open and Beast Lore at the ready. The last tameable beast "discovered" was the "carrion bird" owl, so there's a chance we could find some cool, undiscovered pets-to-be.

I'll join in the search. If I find anything, I'll let you know. And whatever we do, we shouldn't let Blizz know. lol They'll "fix" it.

i can only think of the proto drakes up in stormpeaks(the white ones at the pool) right now thats mislabeled as beast.

Though i always wondered why the hippogryphs flying around the argent tournament are marked as dragonkin.

I'll be even more excited after Cataclysm to see if any 'glitch' pets happened during the whole remake of Azeroth and such. That could be a good chance to find some.

One of these days I need to make a hunter named 'druidtamer' or something. That druid will have the daggercap hawk, the spotted cat, a bear....

I've attached three screenshots here.

You can see the Blighted Proto-Drakes showing as Beasts, and the Hyldsmeet ones showing on Beast Tracker (although they don't show as such when moused over, but they are beast lore-able, as I found out to my detriment... DAMN YOU GRAVITY!)

Found another.

Umpi, the little frog in Tarren Mill. It's a Beast rather than a Critter.

Don't laugh, my lvl 18 troll hunter (Fuzzydolly) has a daggercap hawk pet I named after my druid (Obediah). The guild still finds it amusing. Going to do the same on my Ally hunter one of these days when we get more stables.

Icehowl and all the npc's that look like him in the wild are classified as beast... but alas, none are tamable that i have found.

Heh, and one of my hunters has Dishu named after Sonata's Druid main, who's also her father in RP.

Are these guys hostile to Alliance? If so they should be tameable. It's not a unique skin, but still another beastie to list if so.

My druid lineup:
Bear form: Arcturis, cause of the mane. Or just a regular brown bear.
Travel Form: cheetah, of course.
Attack kitty form: Lynx cat
Flight form: brown daggercap type hawk
And of course the Teldrassil sproutling vanity pet.
