Congrats!! What're you planning to do, now that you have to enter reality? (Not a jab, I always sort of felt that school is some kind of other dimension - removed from the worries and stress of the Real World and filled with its own concerns. Not unlike WoW, come to think of it.)

Although it hasn't quite sunk in yet, I'm done with school too. I defended my thesis in early April and actually officially joined the working ranks two weeks ago. :)

I just noticed the pile of mail we got on Friday. In it? My grades!
*Converts with great care.*
Hmm... B+ average, with a D in gym...
*Mutters about teachers that grade people based on how social they are during classes*

Thank you, thank you, thank you all :D Commencement went excellently and I now have a degree in Digital Media...which is animation, game design, web design, etc. WEWT.

Awesome! High school graduation is a huge step too :D What're you gonna do next? Off to college? Takin' a break? Straight to work?
kairii wrote: i hope the world is nice to you and you live life to the fullist now that you dont have to study as much :)
Haha, that's arguable. I have a feeling I'll be learning just as much in the 'real world,' just not in a classroom setting. Especially if I get into a good animation or game studio...then I'll be learning a hella lot!

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. In one sense school is like life with the training wheels on, but in another sense it's just completely different. Different time tables, different goals, different experiences, different living situations....etc etc.

Anyway, I'm gonna take a month or so off, first off. I've been working full-time 40+ hours a week for the past six summers, so this is my last chance to really have a 'summer fling' as it were before I hit the grind. As my major's options for jobs tend not to open up until late summer/early fall anyway, this isn't a huge deal. Maybe later in the summer I'll pick up a part-time job just to pay the car bills, but I plan to not stress myself too much. Work on bulking up my portfolio, do a little job research, and the like.

Then ideally I'll get into the 'real world' at a nice game studio or animation studio. Mmm, that'd be the life.

Ahaha, congrats! I had to do a thesis myself and maaaaan they are a hassle, but it's so rewarding once you finish it up! It's nice to know you've got that sort of thing under your belt. :D Hooraaay for being part of the working ranks, too :D

Mhmm I know what you mean. The last months were nuts and I went through about eight or nine drafts, but man! I have written a small book! :D It feels very accomplished. Then, of course, you go to your first job interview and realise that it means nothing - you're still at the bottom of the ladder. >_<

Good luck on the job search. :)

Depends on the job I think. I know that a thesis is practically a requirement for graduate schools these days. Or sometimes the thesis gets you a shiny title on your resume, too. That was the case with mine--when I completed it, I earned the Commonwealth Scholarship, which is a prestigious elitist way of saying I'm Super Reliable, which will look great for applications.

(Oh shiz...I almost said I earned the title Commonwealth Scholar. 'Commonwealth Scholar VelkynKarma.' Hrm, has a nice ring to it....and it WAS quite a grind to get there....)

I bet it's still useful, in short :D

Oh sure, it's useful. After all, I did get a job as principal investigator in a new research project with a university... All I'm saying is that my M.A. is nothing compared to my prospective employers' Ph.D.s and years of experience. It does look good on the wall, though. ;)

Edit: And yes, I think it's near impossible to get into a Ph.D. program without a thesis under your belt.

:D Grats to you too! What're you going to college for? The first month is a little hectic, but I'm sure you'll fall into the groove easy enough :)

If I can get Organic Chem I and II right this time, this time next year, I'll be unleashed on the world. To hopefully be a lowly tech in a lab. Just as well. At 29, being an undergrad just ain't where it's at! "No, I'm not a grad student." gets a little old after a while.
Daw, I can see how THAT could get annoying. Well, only two more classes, you can do it :D And lab tech sounds cool, too. :)

OK, now here's what you do...first off, drag that degree to Blizz and get a job. Then, working at night in secret you develop that "Sword of a Thousand Truths" and make sufficient copies to send to all your old buddies here on the forums.
*shakes fist*
DO IT!!! DO IT NOW!!!!

Any particular stats attached to the Mighty Hammer of Mighteousness? Obviously it'll be an orange item exclusive to Petopians...
