I spent 2 hours wiping on the the general in lfr last night.....i rarely play since FR came out.
And there were no new really nifty new pets with the patch i don't think. I will say if you wanna play your hunter then go for it. If you're sorta meh, think it over at least a night first. Don't make any decisions you'll regret.

I pay for wow, but not FR....
What I did when seeking something new was do a search for free games. Never winter Nights was one that caught my eye, but haven't tried it yet. I tried EQ instead. Point is, checking around never hurts.

Considering how most stuff in FR doesn't work and FR's owner doesn't know how to run an adoptables site, WoW is worth coming back to. Timeless Isle is so much fun! New mount, new mini pets, lots of stuff to do! And the game actually works...

There is no rush to 90. I've never rushed. If people try to rush me, I tell them to kiss my rump.
People need to understand that dailies are optional. You don't have to do them. However, you can't expect to get the rewards they have if you don't do them either. Don't try to do them all at once, you'll burn yourself out.
I dunno, the stuff I read in the FR threads....that game would frustrate me more than WoW ever could. You can't do anything cause most of it is broken or lagging out 99% of the time. The owner doesn't know what they're doing it seems, nor knows any sort of coding to fix the huge problems the site has, the economy has gone to hell. The list goes on. Only good thing I've seen about FR is the dragons are pretty. That's all.
The choice is up to you but I'd choose WoW that works over broken FR if it were me.

I came back after a years break so I don't know if I could really comment on this (your time was much shorter and you know of the joys of MoP) But it comes down to what you want to play if you like this new game and know that your more likely to play it for that month then go for it, but if you feel like you want to give WoW another month and see how SoO is or even something newer added ... But personally I would go for the new game or even ask for the person to save that month if that game is currently having problems~

Personally I don't understand why people feel rushed to get to lv 90, or grind endlessly for stuff. There are just sooo many different ways to play wow, and so many things to do.
I can spend days just exploring, or pet battles, or "hunting" rares just to see them in the wild. Doing random quests just for the fun of it. Going directly to instances to run through them for fun, and explore all the nooks and crannies that I couldn't when I went through with a group. Working on professions and gathering materials, searching for random things that people might buy on the AH, or going Mog gear hunting. Practicing suicide jumps and trying to get into combat to disengage in time to survive the fall, or ghost running back when it fails. Heck, even ghost exploring is fun XD
Sometimes I just run around a city checking out everyone's transmogs and writing down ideas for later.
I don't have shado'pan, or august celestial rep, heck, haven't done a single klaxxi quest yet, not to mention the Isle of thunder, or much in the way of dino bone hunting. I just went to the timeless isle on Friday for the first time because my friend needed some help. After a few quests she showed me the "Albatross" taxies and I spend a good amount of time just enjoying the view!
I flex raid with my guild on Fridays, I maybe...sometimes hit up the LFR during the week just to see some aspects of that content, I never go for gear or VP, I go because I find the challenge fun...Was in such a fail LFR last week, and ended up taking command because no-one was explaining anything to anyone. So I played general for a bit. Was fun in itself. I pulled us through the raid, and still made top dps/damage...felt pretty good about that. Not that I am a number cruncher, but I do enjoy seeing my abilities improve while still enjoying the game.
uuummmm...oopsy! I didn't mean to write that much XD

hehe Makoes i like your entry
Im just torn... cause i dont like end game on WoW, and i dont feel there is enough of a large world to explore in while you lvl up and i feel it goes to fast, specially if i like going in lfg... When you hit 60 you go outlands, when you hit 70 you hit northrend etc..
I dont like petbattles at all

find it frustrating hehe
i think there needs to go a bit longer before i return.. dont have the URGE yet

I would say it is definitely worth coming back to. 5.4 is light years better than 5.3 was. The new LFR is fun with some unique fights, especially Galakras. The Dark Shamans and Nazgrim are too difficult for LFR right now but I'm sure they will adjust that.

hehe i dont like lfr that much
and true wows game developers seams to have a bit more experiene with the game ...but i desided NOT to return just yet

i like FR more even with its quirks and broken economy... its more peacefull
