Why is Gumi considered so difficult?

For me at least the thing was a no-brainer. Fly over the mountain, memorize path, spam kite sequence, deterrence, tame. I got it on my second try solo, and I only failed the first time because I got a bit turned around and fell off the mountain.

Perhaps its just that I worked on my kiting skills with relentless determination early on in the game, and I'm really not trying to brag or put other people down, but I see people getting 10+ people to heal and shoot it and I mean really?

I just don't see why its so difficult. Can someone enlighten me? Please, again, I don't mean any offense and am not 'fishing for compliments' I just would like to know why most people have such a hard time.

Because there are many people that don't understand the concept of pathing.

People like me who are really bad at kiting and don't care to continue in a fruitless attempt to get better at it. It's just impossible. I failed on him with help from a tank and a healer. Tank died, game over.

Why would you use a tank on Gumi? o.O I'd just use a pet, that way no armor gets damaged while trying to cut the health to taming point and you'll have all the aggro after abandoning the pet which makes it a lot easier since tanks aren't exactly meant to drop aggro at the drop of a hat

Oops, I may be taking about the wrong one. It was the red one I tried and failed on. I've never seen nor attempted to tame the other two.

Yeah it was Degu I tried and failed on. Reading about Gumi on Wowhead reminded me why I never even tried to get him. :D

I haven't tried the others but when they were first introduced & the servers came up, I had parked at Old Keg, cruised up the mountain side, found Gumi, & I'd say after five tries I got him, right before server restart too.

I tamed all three on different hunters. Hutia was easiest. And I also think Gumi was the hardest for me. The hunter I tamed her with didn't deal much damage, her pet lost aggro all the time, I kept on failing. My husband came with his warlock to help me but it still took over 10 tries until I finally had her. This dang thing is just so faaaaast. She always caught up with me and chomped on my face with an evil grin (at least I thought there was a very evil grin!).

Gumi was the easy one for me. Had more troubles with the green one.
I tried helping a guildie tame it but that person had no knowledge of kiteing nor did they listen to me on how to do it....
Their "idea" of kiteing (even after watching me.) was like this: Shoot. stand there and shot at it. Try to walk in a circle around it. die.

I ended up kiteing it for her so she could just distracting shot and tame.
Going off to max distance and QUICKLY hit tame was not existant in her mind though....so.
I tried for an hour before i just gave up. That hunter never learns or doesnt want to learn.
Annoys me that she does the same kind of effort in everything. Be it raids or world bosses. Provides very little yet get all the good loot.

pathing is something to consider, especially when doing circle kiting. When you kite, ppl need to remember to make wide turns when kiting around an object such as the tree for hutia, as the pet will take sharp turns and cut distance almost instantly and one shot them. I also am guessing ppl don't know they can cast tame pet during detterence...
