Think I just got hacked.

Got kicked out a few times in a row, and then prompted for authenticator code. (No, I don't have one, I play on a Mac, so most if not all keyloggers don't work).

Email sent to Blizz, will call them in the morning.

Worried about my pets... if I have to go find them all again...

Oh noes!

Doing a scan with an outdated Norton right now, downloading a just purchased Kaspersky.

Going to have to change bank password tomorrow on a different computer (doing the only one I've accessed the the past 3 weeks or so, just to be safe).

Oh no! Geez, there's been a sudden rash of these occurrences lately haven't there? Everyone make sure you're being extra safe.

since theres alot of these happening on this site we need to be a lil safer with all the links we throw about and people who click em need to make sure they dont scroll over anything dodgey looking

Sadly Macs being safer is untrue. It used to be the case not because their security is better (ok, online security is better than IE, but nobody uses that anymore anyway, right? Right? Please??) but because their market share was so small the hackers went for PCs instead. With their recent rise in popularity, more and more hackers find them an interesting "market", so it's best to protect yourself in any way you can.

I hope you get it sorted out with Blizz asap. At least it's Monday, so you can call them.

My mom uses IE. D:
I removed the original icon, and put firefox there instead with an Interbet Explorer name and logo, because to her IE is the thing to use, because it was good enough to come shipped with the computer.

I got back a day later, and see her siting with IE. I had replaced ALL IE icons with Firefox-links instead. The icons were still there.

That's the only time she's ever demonstrated skill with computers. She does her banking IN THE ACTUAL BANK because she can't understand the Internet version or he telephone version. And yet...

But... but... but! Can't you explain to her how Microsoft left enormous security gaps and the software makes it more likely that bad things get on her computer?

See, I can't agree with it always being on the user end. I never, ever put my personal information into anything stupid, and the second time I hadn't even touched WoW in two weeks. I know there are a LOT of people who do things that endanger them, but what about people who don't? In my case, what about people who haven't even entered any of their personal information in for long periods of time?

The problem is that it's often about luck. You don't know whether the ads on that particular website you went to had a script in them that ran the moment they loaded. (Mmo-champion apparently had this happen just recently.) What you can do as user is to protect your computer better because these problems exists on the internet no matter what.

I browse using firefox with NoScript and AdBlock. That alone goes a long way towards protecting your computer.

As for you not having used WoW for two weeks, unfortunately that doesn't matter. These things can lay dormant for long periods. When you scan your computer, you should open WoW and type gibberish into the login fields. Some keyloggers only activate once WoW is running.

There is just no way to be hack proof. The scammers/hackers are moving faster than the virus ware and the consumer protection plans. You just do the best you can and be as careful as possible and hope for the best. I hope you can get your account back ok, goodluck. Get a new authenticator is at all possible, its a pain,but helps a little.

Status update:

From last night after I got booted off, and then sent the email to Blizz...

Two characters (not my hunter) were transferred to other servers to commit gold-selling. Password was changed. Two hours later account was banned. Another 2 hours later and they attempted but failed to transfer 3 other toons (probably including my hunter, but unknown). Another violation email after that.

Finally got Blizz on the phone about 4pm today. Changed account email and password. Installed/updated noscripts/ad-blocks (and did a new anti-virus for the Mac last night..)

So, according to Blizz guy, it can take two weeks or more..

If my new pets are gone and not recoverable, I might give up...

They're recoverable. Several posts here have discussed that. If you get a GM that tells you no, reticket, cause they're most definitely recoverable.

I'm still busy checking things and changing passwords... likely will be resetting all my passwords eventually (allthough I am running into a few problems doing that as the no-script is messing with some sites when I try to change the PW).

Well, feel slightly better, but not a lot.

Decided to check the armory, and my hunter is the only toon that will show in the armory that wasn't moved to another server. And my pets were still there, nor does it appear they unlearned my professions. All the gear is vendored, so I imagine the bank is cleaned out as well, along with my decent amount of gold.

All my other toons are on different servers now, and naked.

I was all set to finish Netherwing rep too.. had a bag full of the quest items... sigh...
