Potential new hunter pets in WoD

A place to centralize info about new beasts in the next expansion that have potential to be hunter pets. Not all of these will become tameable, at least not immediately, but most will! Many Petopians have contributed to this list, but special thanks go to Spiritbinder and Inico for a lot of the earlier images, and to Slickrock for much of our early info during the WoD preview at Blizzcon.

CONFIRMED NEW FAMILIES:
There are three new pet families confirmed: Riverbeasts, Hydras and Rylaks.

Riverbeasts
There are five different colours of these heavy-duty hippopotami:

Image Image Image Image Image

Hydras
We've waited six expansions for this! Hydras have been confirmed as a new family in WoD. There's one new model: the "Thunder Hydra", but all the old ones are also confirmed tameable, and there are quite a few!

Thunder Hydras
There are four colours of the new hydra:

Not in Game:

(Was only available on Wavethrasher and Young Wavethrasher in Azshara (both removed). Hopefully some could be returned.)

Rylaks
See also Chimaeras.

Rylak is the name given to the 'skyreaver' model of chimaera (ref). It is confirmed to be tameable (ref) and to have been split off into its own family because it has ground animations (ref).

There are at least seven wild colours: black, green, red, white (officially 'pale'), silver (officially 'white'), yellow and crimson (officially 'chromatic'). The latter seems to have been created for a mount, but works perfectly on the wild model too. It was originally a rather flamboyant magenta and blue but is now a more sober red with nice yellow wings.

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

The original colour of the "chromatic" chimaera, now unfortunately removed:

Image

The body skin for the Iron Skyreaver has also been observed on wild beasts, though it results in some weird marks. Perhaps they're placeholders and will be (or have already been?) replaced:

Image

Furthermore, one or two tameable saddled versions have been discovered on the Beta. Taking into account all possible wild colour variants (the saddled mount uses the wild skins), this allows for five more looks:

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Tameable armoured versions (the same as the Iron Skyreaver mount) were discovered on the Alpha server, which allows for more possible looks (including the original mount). However it's always possible these are no longer available. There are actually two model variants on this, which differ only in that one lacks the strap-on engines. We won't include both variants in the images here because they otherwise look identical:

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Stags
Stags consist of deer, talbuks and gazelles. Shoveltusks were mentioned as unlikely to be included.

Antlered Deer
There are three models, the original, the reindeer/caribou and the Pandaren.

Talbuks
There are two models, the Outland and the Draenor.
Image Image Image Image Image
Image Image Image Image Image

Gazelles
One model, which has existed since vanilla.

NEW MODELS OR COLOURS FOR EXISTING FAMILIES:

Wolves
One new model, seemingly inspired by high quality wolf mounts such as the Kor'kron War Wolf. Apart from the wild model, there's also a saddled and a fully-armoured version, both used for player mounts. At least one armoured wolf has been found to be tameable, so they're included here as well. There are five wild colours and four armoured colours (there's no mount version of the light brown skin):

Image Image Image Image Image

Image Image Image Image

Wolves or Wolf Spirit Beasts (?)
There are three other non-mount variants of the Draenor wolf in model, a "fire" one, a "shadow" one and a "fel" one. All three seem identical in shape to the regular model and each has a single skin associated with it. These models also possess fire, shadow or fel aura effects but they aren't being rendered correctly in Wowmodelviewer. As a result, the images below are nowhere near as awesome as the beasts appear in the game. While they could be used for regular wolves, the effects also suggest they may become spirit beasts (and a comment on Twitter from Jeremy Feasel suggested this as well). If so, we'll have to wait and see!

Image Image Image

As another potential spirit beast, the skin created for the "Iron Horde Wolf" mount works perfectly well on the standard Draenor Wolf model, and results in a really stunning look:

Image

Finally, the new Shaman ghost wolf form, when glyphed for spectral wolf, uses the dark Draenor Wolf skin with spectral effects. This could also potentially appear as a spirit beast.

Boars
One new model, which resembles a high-textured and uncorrupted helboar. There are five wild colours:

Image Image Image Image Image

Ravagers
One new model. Despite looking uncannily like a silithid, it has been confirmed as a new ravager (ref). There are seven different colours:

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Sporebats
One new model with three colours. They're a bit more detailed than the originals:

Image Image Image

Bats
The shiny new bat model was added to the database in MoP but wasn't implemented for wild tameable beasts. Instead it's now appeared on Draenor and in the revamp of Razorfen, with most colours available:

Image Image Image Image Image

Raptors
One new model with at least five colours. The model far more resembles an Azeroth raptor than an Outland one and has no spines.

Image Image Image Image Image

Clefthooves
Clefthooves are a "semi-new" family - the name and most of the models are brand new, but the existing Rhino family was merged into them. There are two new models, the new Draenor one and the original Outland one (which has also been spotted in Draenor but we're unsure if that's intentional). The saddled (mount) version of the Draenor clefthoof has also been found tameable.

Image Image Image Image Image Image

Birds of Prey
There are at least two new models for Birds of Prey: kaliri and toucans.

Kaliri
There's a new Kaliri model, with four colours so far. The last, 'Sun God', actually has its own model with a fire aura.
Image Image Image Image

Toucans / Axebeaks
There are four colours of these bright jungle birds:
Image Image Image Image
There blue coloured axebeak above is actually a replacement. The original blue seems to have been removed, but looks like this:
Image
It's a shame they couldn't have kept both.

Carrion Birds
Two models which originally appeared in the Throne of Thunder have now been spotted on Draenor. They were never tameable in the raid but they are this time!

The flying model comes in four colours:

Image Image Image Image

The flightless model in one colour:

Image

Core Hounds
One new model, which also comes in a mount version. This beast is very true to the original, but much higher quality. It comes in just one colour so far, but given the art team's track record with fire creatures throughout Cataclysm and Pandaria, there's a good chance of more!

Image

Cats
The Pandaren tiger model has been spotted in Draenor, with two new colours. Both have odd red-and-black stripes that don't seem quite real. It's possible they're works in progress and will have swirling or fire effects, but we're not sure.

Image Image

Perhaps the unused "War Nightsaber Mount" colour will also be used, but we're not aware of it.

Image

Moths
There are at least four new colours for the existing moth model.

Image Image Image Image

Wasps
One new model, the Hook Wasp. These were originally announced as a new exotic pet, but have since been merged into the wasp family (ref). There are at least six colours:

Image Image Image Image Image Image

In addition, there are at least four new colours for the existing firefly model:

Image Image Image Image

MODELS THAT ARE LESS LIKELY:

Worms
There are two new colours, both very different to existing ones, for the jormungar model. Sadly so far, both have only appeared on the stationary "half a worm" model so are not tameable.

Image Image

Windserpents
There is a new "blood" variant of the original (NOT Outland) windserpent model. Unfortunately we can't get a decent model shot of it at the moment, but it's essentially like an old red windserpent with swirling blood effects over its body. The only use of it so far is on an aberration so we're not likely to see it for now.

Dread Ravens
These are flaggde as Birds of Prey, but none are tameable. A tweet by Muffinus indicates they won't be tameable (though this could change). There are now four different colour variants: the original blue (used on the CE mount), purple, brown ('wind') and fiery orange ('sun'). The 'sun' colour is available on a special model with fire effects. For the armoured versions I've also included the purple skin, even though no special armour skin has been discovered for this colour yet. Instead I've used the gold armour that belongs to the blue skin.

Chimaeras
See also Rylaks.

There is a new, very reptilian chimaera model which occurs as a mount in the WoD database, but for some reason it's been excluded from the game. Sadly there's a good chance we won't see it for now:

Image

CURRENTLY TOO HIGH LEVEL, BUT SHOULD BE TAMEABLE IN WoD:
These are beasts that are already flagged as tameable but are currently too high to tame. Of course we can't be certain they're tameable until someone is able to try!

NEW BEASTS / CHANGED LOOKS IN OLD ZONES:
These are beasts that don't fit in the above categories as new models, but are new additions to older zones. Most notably, Blackfathom Depths has been revamped.

Turtles
Image
  • Pahboo-Ra <Son of Ghamoo-Ra> (level 24, not elite) (Blackfathom Depths) - TAMEABLE
Image
  • Ghamoo-Ra (level 25, elite) (Blackfathom Depths) - UNAVAILABLE LOOK, CHANGED APPEARANCE, NOT CURRENTLY TAMEABLE
Image
  • Razorshell Snapjaw (level 24 elite) (Blackfathom Depths) - TAMEABLE

Crabs
Image
  • Guardian of the Deep (level 25 elite) (Blackfathom Depths) - NOT CURRENTLY TAMEABLE

Hydras
  • Aku'mai (level 25 elite) (Blackfathom Depths) - CHANGED LOOK, NOT TAMEABLE. Aku'mai is now a disembodied, purple, Megaera-style head, and so won't be tameable

MODELS THAT DIDN'T APPEAR (just concept art):
Note that it's not uncommon for concept art to never reach the model stage. So don't get your heart set on this...

Tallstriders
Concept art for a new tallstrider was shown at Blizzcon, but we haven't seen any evidence of a model:

Well, one beastie from the Warlords of Draenor trailer. An armoured boar using a slightly new look. I missed it but SB caught it. Just a crude shot for now.

Image

Spiked, but double tusks like an Azeroth boar. The spikes are higher up in the mane than the felboars. The texture seems to have more muscles.

Here's a slightly better image of that, Wain.

I really, really like the colour of its fur, actually. I'm not big on boars, but I like this one.

There are a few tamable looking mobs in the artwork on the official page. One looks like an updated tallstrider model. It looks more primal

That is one gorgeous boar! Hope they have unarmored models too.

The frogs from Timeless Isle are in Shadowmoon Valley so that may be a possibility!

There are those wolves in the clip as well, and I also noticed the wolves the Frostwolf clan are riding have ears!! So there might be an unarmored tamable version of those.

I think the wolves that shaman was chasing in the trailer were using the updated model too.

Just saw an unarmoured version of the new boar in a dungeon preview and it looks awesome. Much more detailed!

We totally, totally -- totally need this as a new pet. It looks so wicked and primal.

Unfortunately they said that's gonna be a mount.

Could still be a pet too! We can tame a lot of things that are also mounts!

The chimera, though, they claimed to have atack animations, and even be fought as a boss. Might have some tameable ones, then :D (even if 'just' as new chimera pet skins)

Concept art shots from the main site ( http://us.battle.net/wow/en/warlords-of-draenor/ ). These may or may not ever appear in the game (apart from the wolf, which is confirmed). Plenty of concept art never does.

Seems to be just the new wolf but FINALLY in a no-armour model! MaximumOverdrive posted a shot of it in-game above. So this one isconfirmed:

Image

New tallstrider, mentioned above:

Image

A toucan! This is uncannily like SpiritBinder's recent art. He swears he's not secretly working for Blizzard.

Image

A.... weird long-tailed hippothingamus EDIT: it's called a riverbeast according to Slickrock who is at the con:

Image

The new dragonfly:

Image

No shot yet: The new chimaera. It's not on their main site and I can't find a good shot of it yet.

Probably not tameable, but look at the new mammoths!

Yeah, the "stegaphant" things didn't look much like tameables, but the spikes also suggest they won't be mounts, so I'm not sure about those :/

While cool, if it's as massive as they say, I'd put that on the unlikely list.

Even the chimera I'm unsure BUT yanno...could be wrong. The unarmored wolf is one I'm super stoked about.

There are some really awesome arts there. The dragonfly looks wicked mean, the whale looks beautiful, the mammothlekk looks awesome. The hippothingything looks also nice! In fact, it all just looks awesome. I hope we get some cool pets here. I would kill for the dragonfly, though. That's epic incarnate.
