Caught this on Twitter just now.
Ghostcrawler announced this morning on Facebook that he will be leaving Blizzard Entertainment to pursue a "great opportunity for something new and exciting". I don't usually share my opinions in news post, so there's a tweet with my full thoughts on the subject.

Oh good! Now we'll be able to kill mages!

Aw, I'm very sad to see him go, I always liked him.
I hope he does well in his future endeavors!

This makes me sad to see. He's been here with Blizzard since the start for many of us so needless to say, I'm tearing up a little.

I read somewhere, that he didn't like the direction WOD was going with the game, and was butting heads with the CEO. I have no idea if this is true, or why he is leaving. I have mixed feelings about it.

He mentioned a better opportunity has arrived...so there's your reason. People leave jobs all the time if something better comes up. So I think what you heard was false rumors. People make that stuff up all the time and never think someone left on good terms.

Well now I want to know what this bigger better opportunity is. Is it a game? I MUST KNOW!
best of luck to him.

Anyone know what the new project is? I've read elsewhere that the answer is obvious (of course, they declined to give details). But I don't have a clue!

Don't forget Ghostcrawler was once upon a time a marine biologist (coincidentally making him awesome and resulting in my favorite spirit beast to date) and I can only hope his new opportunity has something to do with that.

I would guess it's still game-related. I suspect he got out of marine biology for a reason. I would just assume any "rumours" are lies at this point, however. The people who truly know his reasons are probably better people than to blurt crap like that out. Whatever he's doing, I hope he really enjoys it.
And I'm wondering who's going to be replacing him, both in his official role and as a public face for the company. It may not be the same person who performs both. In fact I'd be pretty certain it wouldn't unless it's someone already well known.

I'm sad about this. Not sure why, really. I guess he was just such a fixture in the game. And I always thought he was cool cause he was a biologist first.

I understand you can't stay with one company for ever. it's good to move on. Still he will be missed.

I am going to miss him

he's such an iconic person to me for WoW. And his sense of humor, will definitely miss that!

I always liked him too and usually agreed with what he said and did. He took a lot of (in my mind) undeserved flak and I'm sure a lot of people will applaud his leaving but I will miss him.
Having said that, he looked different to me in all the videos from Blizzcon. He looked more gaunt and unhealthy and his eyes looked more sunken. I hope the real reason for his departure is not health related but this makes me wonder even more than I have been about this.

Am I the only one who remembers him as the guy with abrasive responses to player questions?
Or the guy who insisted that a toon not at level cap was not a "legitimate" toon?

I haven't forgotten. Thus why I said I have mixed feelings about him leaving.

Some of his replies made me raise an eyebrow, or ticked me off, but to be fair, I read some of the questions put to him, and they were put in this "how can you be so stupid?!" tone that would get anyone's back up. I imagine having to deal with that over time wears one down. I also heard that back when changes were made to mages, I believe, he received an awful amount of abuse, including threats. I honestly hope that he receives less bile and vitriol with his next project, and that he is happy with it.
