Hello all!

Although this is my first post, I do admit to stalking MANY threads here while awaiting for Aeonaxx/Bat spawns in Deepholm. WoW Petopia is a wonderful find when you need something to keep you going after spending hours, days, weeks, and even months waiting for a mob to spawn. I can't even tell you how many times I've seen the bat repeatedly spawn one after the next instead of Aeonaxx. I've been trying to claim him as my own since the release of Cataclysm. I've spent a great deal of time waiting without ever seeing one spawn or dead body... and then today... I had a strike of good luck (or misfortune ).

I decided to play around in Stonecore and hangout by the entrance while waiting for a possible spawn. A couple of hours passed by and eventually the "occasional" thoughts of never seeing Aeonaxx started to run through my head. Just the usual feelings I get while waiting and suddenly... BAM! NPC Scan sirens! I'm tabbed out while scrolling around on the web and assume it's most likely that silly bat playing tricks on me again. I tab back in and what do you know, my NPC scan lit up with a picture of AEONAXX ON MY SCREEN! I see Aeonaxx's little npc icon spinning and my heart completely stops! I was so surprised that I practically froze in my chair! It seemed I couldn't move my hand fast enough to my mouse to begin flying to Aeonaxx's location, almost as if I forgot all of my keybindings too! I'm flying around frantically looking for him and flying in all of the wrong places. After basically slapping myself for freaking out, I fly back to the Stonecore entrance and as soon as I look to right... THERE he is! I'm diving in towards him as fast as my little mount would take me and as I get just barely close enough, another player jumps on him and tags him. It felt like my heart sunk into the pit of my stomach. Ugh... I was depressed for a couple of hours after... I've never felt so disheartened.

I thought today would be the day, but it's not. Even though I wasn't able to claim him as my own, it's the closest I've come after waiting for so long. I believe one of these Aeonaxx spawns is waiting for me, and it will be meant for me. I will not give up until I'm able to ride on my very own PSD! One day he'll be mine!

aww!! i feel yah! it took me 2 miss on my Farm!. Took me 2 months!

Searching for these rares can be quite disheartening at times. Until I finally caught glimpse of him yesterday, I thought my chances of ever seeing him were slim to none. It seems the more time I spend waiting, the less it's even about the mount. Don't get me wrong, I want to bag that shiny mount more so now than ever before. I gotta have something to show for all of this time spent waiting!

I'm spending my day off from work sitting out here in Deepholm watching tumbleweeds roll by... Aeonaxx where are you?

Aeonaxx is another of those rares that I just like to torment us. I'll bet right now, he's off having a latte with Timelost Protodrake and Golganarr.

I'm so sorry hun. I had that happen the first time I camped Aeonaxx. Waited 14 hrs straight only to have a lvl 83 night elf hunter take him from me.

ouch. I'm so sorry to hear of your misfortune. I had a hell of a time getting my Aeonaxx. (I think I missed him like 6 times and one time I tagged him, he despawned and the gm just kind of shrugged and told me to keep camping.) I know the discouraging feeling of spending endless months in that cold, dark, boring zone with nothing to show for your troubles but if you wait long enough the odds eventually stack in your favor. (Even if you do end up only camping him out of spite. *shakes fist.) I had actually decided to take a break from camping and was just passing through the zone out of habit when I got invited to do rbgs. The raid invite sent me to a new realm and guess who spawned on top of me?
If i were to give you any advice on the camp it would be this: If you are on your hunter keep track dragons up and all other tracking turned off. Aeonaxx will be a green dot on the map. if you are camping by the entrance to stone core I think you can monitor the sw1 & sw1 on your mini map and keep a visual on NW1. if the alarm goes off and none of these spawns show results then he should be at NW2.
try and hover at the same altitude he spawns at. I missed him twice because I was too high up.
make the other campers your friends. exchange spawn times and try to compromise on camping locations. you need someone to talk to, right?
also you can loot him off other servers so if there are too many campers or a bat spawns you can camp on a friends server.
although camping multiple spawn points is good, camping a single spawn point better guarantees you don't get ninjaed before you can mount him. I finaly lucked out camping NW2. its farther away from the most camped areas but you can still monitor three spawn points.
I really hope you get him. He really is worth it and after a camp as long as yours you deserve a break.

Hello all, it's been a while since my last post here. Thank you all for the advice and encouragement, I appreciate it all so much. I've been camping Aeonaxx non-stop since the last spawn I missed on Thursday 16th. I'm camping between the SW points and sometimes switching to the NW points. To my misfortune, Aeonaxx spawned again this morning by the blood trail and I missed him to someone who was closer than me. I was camping by the stonecore SW points. I realized he didn't spawn near me so I flew to the blood trail spawn point and missed him by seconds. They were nice enough to send me a whisper letting me know they got him and to wish me luck. They were one of the lucky ones who came by to fly around the quartzite basin and Aeo spawned out of chance. Even though it feels like I'm so close to giving up, I know I'm not the only one this happens to. I'm going to keep reminding myself that eventually the odds will weigh in my favor. It's just really hard after waiting for so long to keep thinking positively about this. *sigh*

Your persistence will pay off at some point - it's a frustrating camp but unfortunately that's how all the rare spawn mounts are.

My suggestion: Pick a camp spot that's directly at one of his spawn point, that covers multiple spawn points - you are obviously knowledgeable about this already - and do not move off that spawn point unless someone comes along and sits on your spawn point. If someone's just doing a flyby stay put, but if they seem to mean to push you off the spot, pick another one.

I did my camp for about 2 weeks or so, IIRC. During that time another person who was camping brought out guildmates to try and scare people away from the camp, but most their guildmates wouldn't stay for long so I learned to ignore them. It sure did clear out the area of other campers though! After a while I noticed that one of their buddies that would hang around much longer than the others, so I ended up picking 3 good camp spots and rotating between them whenever they showed up.

My default point was SW, just above the white rock, or Stonecore if I just wanted a change of scenery. If that area was taken I moved to NW, the NE as my last choice. I also had help camping (my spouse was a night owl at the time and would cover late night camps). He ended up getting him right by Stonecore - he spawned so close to where I'd left my toon that he didn't even have to move to mount him.
