Not So Silver Silvermane Stalkers

*Edit* Well, it seems that these wolves were changed LAST YEAR! I guess I never noticed them when I was fishing in the Hinterlands on an alt.. so, yeah, old news is kinda old, but it's still pretty interesting.

Well, while questing on my Shadow Priest, I noticed something odd about the Silvermane Stalkers of the Hinterlands.. They're black worgs! Not the silver-grey ones! What the?! I'm wondering what the heck is up with them.. Especially since they aren't even silver anymore! Am I the only one seeing this, or did Blizzard really change them? Also.. I'm not too sure about this, but I don't think I saw any of them stealth or anything. So now they're the silvermane stalkers that are actually black and don't stealth anymore XD
Since when were silver wolves black?

I think they made this change a while back, but it seems silly to call them silvermanes and have them black.

Really? I never noticed til now. It's kinda an odd change, isn't it? Unless it has something to do with Cataclysm.. Maybe black worgs will be much rarer than they are now? Kinda like how they changed some of the wolves in Elwynn Forest to deseased wolves so they'll still be quite a few of them in Cataclysm. But still, this has got to be one of the weirdest changes I've seen, not only are they black instead of silver, they don't even stealth around anymore! So much for being Silvermane Stalkers! >.>

No it's most likely because A: the wolves were stealthed and they could really, really tear you a new one. B: the wolves were stealthed, so they were really, really hard to kill for quests.

And C: most quest mobs that shared skins with other mobs, for quests, either same or different, obtained differing skins. The owlkin received a different skin, there's red and now black.

This was probably to help people who at a first glance would see the mob, shoot the mob, and then realize no the mob was a spy- I mean, imposter.

But the panthers are cats, not misguided wolves :p

and if I remember; to lazy to scrawl teh intarwebs and still can't get to my account- the shadowmaw panthers in STV that stealth aren't near any other non stealthing panthers. Or atleast, not close enough to where they can be confused, for one. Mean on some days it was very easy to get thru hinterlands and to the troll village that I'd never run into a stealthed wolf. So it would be easy for someone to completely overlook the whole quest because of the inability to find a prowling wolf.

Could also be part of the fact that whenever they seemed to attack, the attacks would auto daze you. Always seemed to auto daze my toons, even at higher levels O_o

I don't see how that makes much difference, if it was hard for people to kill for quests, why weren't they changed a long time ago? And theres hardly ANY quests that involve those wolves, and the ones that do require you to kill pretty much all the other wolves in the Hinterlands, so why make only THESE wolves different? And heck, it's not that hard to freakin' READ the name of the mob to figure out which thing you're killing.

Look I'm sorry I didn't clarify it enough.

Hinterlands wasn't the only quest hub to get changed. The wolves in hinterlands weren't the only ones changed. You know the Owlkin? As I said they were changed. Two skins now, red and black. Originally said owlkin were also needed for a Feralas quest. Not anymore. And the entire Muzik quest chain for horde? Redone, atleast for quest mobs.

You act like this is the FIRST time Blizzard took so long to fix anything. Let me give you an example; near Swamp of Sorrows there's a little out of the way quest giver for horde. Before Deadwind pass or whatever. It used to be the quest the dude gave required you to not only kill crap in Swamp of Sorrows, but if i remember right, STV AND Desolace too.

So it's really not so far fetched if they'd make a quest finally just focused on one place after so long- they would impliment changes to existing mobs to make it easier.

Besides ever see some species of animals? Like erf I forget but it's a type of horse. The males and females have entirely different coats. The females I think, stay black, the males mature into a gorgeous white. Fresians[?] I think are the horses, don't quote me as not entirely sure.

Or hell they could just be tarnished Silvermane's and be needing a bit of TLC to clean their coats a bit :<

Don't accuse me of "acting like this is the FIRST time Blizzard took so long to fix anything", cause I'm not, in fact, all I was doing was stating my own freaking theory on why the wolves are changed, theres no need to go crazy explaining things like that. It was just my opinion, that's all.

I think they might have changed the Silvermane Stalkers because a lot of newbie hunters tamed them expecting them to keep that stealth and were more than a little disappointed when they didn't, and kept suggesting when pet feedback was asked for that ZOMG wolves should have stealth. As to the color change - they may have wanted to keep them visually distinct from the Silvermane Howlers...or maybe the idea is that the black wolves are supposed to "stalk" around in the shade under the trees and thusly be somewhat camouflaged. I was certainly surprised when they changed them and thought it was a little odd myself.

Personally, if a pet family that doesn't currently have Prowl was to get it...I vote for the devilsaurs. Not like they don't sort of seem to have it already...

Dear god when did I accuse you of anything- I mean I know we may have had differences in the past but you don't need to get so riled up for goodness sake. I was simply trying to throw out other reasons and explanations as this came about well before, if I remember right, the big pet scare of Cata. Or maybe not but sheesh :/ next time I see you make a thread I'll just not post my opinion if it ruffled your feathers so badly.

Good theory, though I still stand by my Cataclysm theory with less black worgs being in it. Besides, you'd think that Hunters would have figured out by now that they don't have prowl, but hey, this is the Hunter class we're talking about.. though I'm totally against the Huntard stereotype, it's very true that we Hunters rue have our fair share of idiots.

I don't see how I was getting riled up, but oh well. And while I'm totally fine with you stating your opinion, I think it was going a bit overboard explaining it that much. I mean, I did disagree with it, but I don't think it calls for going into so much detail, if I don't agree, why go to so much trouble explaining your theory? Just leave it be.

I wouldn't say "idiots," exactly - though there are some out there. I think more "uninformed as to how certain pets work" is more accurate in this case. Besides, unless I'm mistaken, the Stalkers were the only stealthing wolves in the game. A hunter that doesn't use Petopia as their bible for pets might think they had found a rare sort of wolf that did stealth. I could see it being an easy mistake to make in that scenario.

You know, I was there recently and I was wondering the same thing. I think there is a white worg in the area.

I've noticed this as well, Black Worgs are nice and all but I liked the silver/gray ones previously. Also have you noticed that they are no longer Stealthed? Which defeats the purpose of their name all together in my opinion.

Silvermane impliments a Gray coloration, and Stalker makes you think hey prowl/stealth.

Yeah, it irked me when they changed these guys. :/ Having stealthed wolves was just one of those features of the zone. You'd walk in wondering why it was so quiet, and suddenly you've got a wolf snapping at your legs.

If they took away the stealth because it was 'too hard' for some people, then why on earth would they change the colouring too? Bah!

I remember noting this a while ago, when I was running through there on an 80 for some quest or another. At first I thought my stealth detection was just so high they couldn't hide seeing as I WAS an 80, but I realized this was not the case when I actually leveled there on Taigi.

This isn't the only place STEALTH has been altered, though. The satyr camp in Ashenvale immediately comes to mind. I remember getting ganked by 2-3 stealthing satyrs all at once because I was a stupid noob that thought a clear path meant safety. Lol, not the case. But recently while I've been questing there on low-level Petopian toons, I've noticed there are NO stealthers there anymore.

Bleh....I'm not one to start crying 'QQ Blizzard is making the game too easy!' however in cases like this....yeah, I think new players are really missing out on some of those things while levelling. :/
