One of my kitties suddenly passed.

We lost one of our kitties this evening. He was young, healthy, happy, and there was no warning. He was fine when I got home from work, fine at dinner. Around 7, I went downstairs to get ready to go to the grocery store. I found him sprawled next to the sofa....just gone. I've been crying ever since. 1:30am and I just want to sleep and my sinuses are so swollen my teeth hurt and I can't stop crying and wondering what on earth happened to him....

Oh my god, I'm so sorry! Oh man....I don't think any words could be of comfort. Maybe you can take him to the vet and find out what exactly happened. I know there was some sickness that can hit kittens and puppies without warning but I can't remember the name of it off hand.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it was painless. Poor little kitty. My condolences to you and the rest of your family that loved the little guy.

Junrei, he wasn't a kitten. He was like 6 years old. I work at a vet clinic, and much of the time sudden deaths are the result of a catastrophic event such as brain aneurysm or blood clots/heart attack. At any rate, he's buried, so an autopsy is out. It won't bring him back anyway.

That's so sad to hear Dewclaw, I'm very sorry for your loss.

I know how rough that is to go through, my thoughts are with you.

No, it won't. You're right. Though sometimes a closure is better than to be left wondering but seems you have a good idea of what may have caused it so that may be plenty to go off of to give the closure you need.

He'll always be with you in spirit.

Cats also tend to hide generalized 'not feeling well' until they're feeling really awful (and it's often too late to do anything about it). At least you have the comfort of knowing it was fast and not a long painful decline.

Nach, yeah I know of their tendencies to hide illness. I am very close to my rescues, and I tend to have a good bead on their moods and feelings and health (there have been at least 2 occasions where I brought kitties in to the vet, and they could not find anything wrong on exam. Both were ill, and the vets were impressed with how in tune I was with them when they found out what was wrong after digging deeper. That's not to say I didn't miss something, but Logan had been racing up and down the stairs (something he loved to do) that very day. Regardless, he is still sorely missed.
