People who have had pets restored after abandoning

Hey all,
Just need to ask a quick question to anyone on this forum who has had a pet restored by blizzard in the past after accidently abandoning them
My question is:
When they restored your pet, did it still have the name you gave it before you accidently abandoned it or was it just like "cat" and you had to rename it again?
- i ask this because i was just wondering if they stored this information even post abandonment

I've had a couple pets restored in the past, and they always kept the names I had given them before releasing. All the information should still be there.

I have found that if you know the name of your pet you abandoned, it actually helps them locate your pet in the restoration process. Good luck!

It had the same name it originally had, I even had a pet with the same name in my stable, from the same family (different skin). Luckily it was a rare spawn, so I was able to tell them the npc I had tamed. I don't know if that helped them find it.

Could this then be a reason as to why I can't seem to name my Gorilla pet the same name I had a previous gorilla named? Because somewhere on some database the pet still exists? This would be glorious...

Hmm I don't think that's the reason. The name might've been put on the no-no list.

Thank you all eho responded, my second question is
Is there a time limit to how long after abandoning the pet is able to be restored?
I'm wondering if they keep the data on abandoned pets forever or just for a certain amount of time
Has a GM ever said no because it had been too long?

I had my Aotona restored in my Tauren hunter after half a year. This seemd no problem. I still had a screenshot with the date I had tamed her, gave the GM the name and asked if it was possible to restore her. I had to logg out and after logging in again on this char she was back in my stables.

Did she still have the name Aotona?
I'm starting to think maybe they can just give you the pet even if they don't find it in your logs, but this would only make sense if she didn't have the name Aotona

Searched my old posts, came up with these:
9 June 2011: Thanks again for the Loque siggy, worked like a charm! Tamed Cirque this morning.
4 April 2013: I was able to get my Loque Cirque back by putting in a ticket from the Blizzard website: support-->my tickets-->submit a ticket-->in-game issue-->abandoned something-->restoration for hunter pet.

It might also help to know the pet's ID too. I'm not sure if your pet is a Rare or something, but using Gorman's example with Loque'nahak, his ID is 32517. You can easily see it on wowhead by checking the url.
http://www.wowhead.com/npc=32517 <-- Loque'nahak's page.
That's what I did to get back my ghost hydra when Blizzard added the Hydra family to the game. My first attempt didn't work, so I added the pet's ID in my second request and it worked.

Sometimes yes, I've had them say no cause the log was too long ago. However, more often than not, they would restore it.

I have had several long since released pets restored. (THANK YOU kind GM's). But I did have my original WoW toon restored to me some time ago. She'd been deleted at least a year. ALL of her pets came with her when she was restored. They all were named. So as others have said if you have the ID of that pet and it's name you could probably get it restored to you.
However I will note. If it's a per with an appearance buff the responses are VERY mixed. I know people who've had them restored with their appearance buff and some without. So be mindful of that.

Not the OP, but I might be able to help: For a brief amount of time, at varying times in Wow, you could tame animals that had altered appearances. Sha-tainted pets, Kung Din-- the tiger with the chain about his neck, etc. The way you tamed them was often really difficult, and in some cases (at least to me) nearly impossible, and at this time, no, you cannot tame these pets. There is a post about these sort of pets somewhere on the boards here.
I believe the person was saying that if the pet you wish restored was one of those sort of pets, you really may not get them with the appearance buff still attached.
And to keep this on topic, I was able to get Ankha restored to me after almost 2 years and I'd not remembered the name I'd given it. So time might not be an issue, nor name-- if it is listed as a pet you've had on that toon, even without the info you should get it back... if it is not a really busy week where the GMs are swamped, I am thinking.

Thanks a lot for this information
Sorry to sound like I'm repeating myself
But I wonder, when you were restored Ankha back, was it resored with the name you gave it or the name it would of been given after taming such as "cat"
Just wondering if they can not only restore, but give players pets if they know the pet ID without it existing in any type of database

They will only restore them. Any information you can give them to help them find it in your saved data is appreciated: date of tame, npc id, name.

Yeah the pet I had was named Guardor. After I abandonded it, I went and retamed him like, 12months later. But when I went to change his name it tells me that Guardor is blacklisted.
Seriously? What the hell is wrong with that name?
Anyway I put in a ticket it for it and they told me that they didn't see why the name would be banned, but also that they wouldn't do anything about it.
It's been a number of years since then, and I try every 6 months or to get the name back but don't think I ever will.
There's nothing terrible about Guardor.... I just don't get it

OK, when I got my ankha back, she had the name I'd given her-- and truth here, in all the times I have spoken with anyone who has gotten a pet back, it always comes back with the name you gave it attached.
I think, but am not sure, but what you are asking is that if you ask for a pet to be restored, but you really never had it, will they know? Yep, they will. You will only get back a pet they can see was attached to the toon you are requesting for -- which means if you're like a lot of us, and have multiple Hunters, you will need to be on the right toon for the right pet to be restored. As an example, I only have Dethillac on ONE hunter toon of mine, Arisia. If I, for some reason unknown, had released Dethillac a year ago, the ONLY toon I can request it restored for would be Arisia. My other toons are out of luck.
They're not really "giving" you a pet from nowhere; what you are asking them is to restore a pet you took a lot of time and effort to find, and tame but then let them go for a reason that, at the time, seemed good-- for me, personally, it was stable space. With the HUGE stables we have now, I wanted my Ankha back... and while I COULD have taken the time to sit and stalk her again, I figured why not ask first and save me some time. Having a random pet ID isn't going to help, not unless your Hunter has once tamed the pet.
Basically, your account is clearly delineated to the GMs-- the gear, and pets each toon owns is saved; I've seen people LEAVE WOW for three years, come back and they still have accounts, with those same toons. The exceptions are placeholder toons that CAN have names taken is they were under level 10 and you haven't logged into them for a few years. Even if you've forgotten the name of the pet you want restored, just request it -- if at all possible, you should get it back. If at that time you really HATE the name it has now, remember, there is always the lovely Certificate of Ownership to change a pet's name. ;D
Hope I've helped!
