Need pet suggestions as I'm sort of brainstorming right now. Going to run with the idea of a mage turned into a hunter alt but I have a slight idea as to what pets could be considered magic-related or magically made that my lovely huntress could level with. I looked at the spirit beasts (too high level) and then I looked at the jeweled/statue like hunched cats (didn't know we had such lovely kitties.) a possibility.

I have a name picked: Anza Moon, named for the actress who played Sailor Moon in the Sera Myu Musicals from 1993-1995. Anyway, what are a few suggestions that I may think on. Thank you again!

But here are some families/looks that I think have a "Magic" feel to them.

I think a basilisk or warp stalker of some sort would probably fit well. the color and level would depend on personal taste. a few other pets I think would fit well reguardless of color are core hounds, dragon hawks and any color rune dog.
Also if you are interested in gem pets
for lvl 73, or for a low level the ghostly version can be obtained at 25, as well as the rare blue one.

and at 48 there is a personal favorite of mine, olm the wise.
you could grab this guy at 48.
as well as this ghostly white bird at 41. (there is also a blue version at 66)

I can think of lots more but I think I will stop before this turns to spam. There are tons of wasps, snakes, nether rays and moths that could fit well too depending on what colors you like.

The blue runed demon dog is what I immediately thought of when reading the post. The second thing was arcane wyrms (serpents that float around, like in northrend). There's rares of both below 60.

You could also try something that is like a wizard or witch's familiar, like a raven (bird of prey (2 models) or carrion bird) or owl (bird of prey). One of the ravens is level 6-7. It's in Howling Fjord, but if you can take the boat out of Menethil Harbor on your lowbie, they're pretty close to where the boat goes. There's several owls at low level, including some gray ones on Teldrassil.

I'd say any of the arcane serpents. It's not just that they look "magical" but they are intrinsically associated with magical energies, much as their mana serpent cousins are.
