The Thunder Hydra....What do you think about that?

Am I the only one to think that the heads aren't good-looking at all?
I mean....I use photofiltre for about 15 minutes to come up to the fact that they would look better with a "longer" nose.
Take a look and let me know what you guys think.

Like I said, I spent 15 minutes...I don't have any other program but this one...

No, I agree, I think its face is ugly. However, I think your edit almost makes it a little too draconic, and I don't know if the devs would want to go there considering how they feel about tameable dragons. Although, the warpstalkers could arguably be described as slightly draconic-looking.

But to answer your question, yes, I think yours looks way better. XD

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I looked at mine right after giving the little guy his make-over, but, like you said, the warpstalkers look like dragons and so do the arcane snakes. The serpents look like nagas without arms...

I think it's supposed to resemble Megaera...

The thing is: you can't see Megeara's body. You can't see how disproportionate its body is compared to its 3 heads.
With just heads coming out of the water, they look fine. They have a kind of "crown" which gives a bigger look to them.
If you look at the heads of the Thunder Hydras, they are so small compared to the rest of the body.
Making the muzzle a little bit longer balances out everything and it would look so much better.

I think I like your version better but I doubt it is something we will see changed and at this point I have been waiting so long for hydras that I will not be picky about what we get. I think they were going for a more savage/creepy look and I can get behind that but your version does look nice. the current faces kind of look like they would have trouble eating without doing a really messy faceplant. :P

Skip the nosehorn on the middle head and your look better if you ask me.

While I like your version a lot, I think this beast may have been meant to be a bit horrifying. I don't mind that it looks creepy. It reminds me of an old sea monster. :)

It's only the shoulder / neck height thing that gets to me. In the Petopia shot in the OP you'll notice that I took pains to get the angle just right to flatter it the most. But from the sides, the shoulders look very high and hence the necks VERY short.

I love the Thunder Hydra's (Hydrakes for short) I've wanted a more draconic pet for some time, the closest I have are Chromagnus and a warp chaser. I don't mind the short muzzles on them at all. I feel it gives them a more savage or feral look where as the muzzled version I almost feel like it's going to start talking like Draco and explain the importance of stars to me.
The only thing about the model that seems off to me is the size ratio between body and neck/heads.
But I really do like that they did not go with a "classic" over-used "dragon muzzle" for this. I find it refreshing from a stagnant stereotypical design.

To me, the short muzzles make them look like an earthworm IMO. The neck just sort of works into a face, not a head. Longer snouts, or even just a larger head would make them look more proportionate, and I don't think we'd lose out on the creepy factor either.

I couldn't put my finger on that, Gimlion, thank you.
THEY DO LOOK LIKE WORMS! Ugly worms, while I'm at it.
Could you imagine this beast trying to bite on something?
Actually...they remind me of Pugs....

My opinion is very unpopular but I do think that Thunder Hydra should be an exotic beast, while the other Hydras are not.

I kinda felt Hydras as a whole should've been exotic but that's because to me...they look like an Exotic pet. I suppose the only reason they didn't make them exotic is because so many hunters wanted them.

If they are exotic, my idea of Hydra's family ability would be that each head has separate debuffs; First Crunch(increase physical damage taken), Second Crunch (increase magic damage taken) and Third Crunch(reduce healing receive).

While that would be awesome, that'd be a bit too OP in WoW's standards.

Yeah, they'd end up being a "mandatory" pet just from the sheer usefulness of their ability set.

I also think they aren't exotic because of the model's popularity. Just like basilisks, really; they're mystical dragonlike creatures that are part mineral yet they aren't "exotic"... because people have been yelling for basilisks since vanilla.

(though they gave them a rotten family skill, which is why I'm so looking forward to the pet skill shifts...)
