WoW Petopia Community

The art team created a number of lovely new icons for hunter pets in early MoP (or was it late Cata?) but they were never implemented. They're just sitting in the game database unused. These were for ones where the current icon either isn't the right beast at all (like basilisks and shale spiders) or is a beast with riding harness or something.

We've requested for them to be implemented a few times now, but nothing has ever come of it. Maybe WoD will finally be the time!

Basilisk: inv_pet_basilisk
Crane: inv_pet_crane
Direhorn: inv_pet_direhorn
Goat: inv_pet_goat
Dog: inv_pet_mastiff
Monkey: inv_pet_monkey
Shale Spider: inv_pet_shalespider

Any way these can be put on the pet bible (aka Petopia)???? They're very lovely.

Oh those icons are so lovely! I hope they get put in.

As others already mentioned, only Beta members can post on that forum, but I'd be happy to support it if there was another on the general forums (or if I get into beta at some point).

I love them and hope they get attached to the pet families. I didn't even realize our current Direhorn was the mounted version.

However the art on them make me wonder if they had special earmarks for them. Not that it would be a problem to reuse for pet families, but I wonder if they made some of them with glowy auras and eyes for an intended purpose that was never realized.

Side note: I'd love to see that glowy mastiff in game as an npc

I also would support if I should ever be allowed into beta ;P

However, with the mastiff, wouldn't that icon be applied to all in the dog family?
They're not all mastiffs. The demondogs are there, too, which would be little strange with a mastiff icon

But-if they can put them to individual pets-ignore me!

That's the same with all pet families with multiple models, though. The icon has to be one or other.

I can't say for sure, but they appeared a month or two after I posted a suggestion on the forums with that exact list of pets that didn't have proper icons yet. It seems a big coincidence if they weren't created for that purpose. There must be one or more icon artists that are extremely eager because at the time they were busily creating icons for just about everything, while in the past they would have made do with fewer icons for a broader range of things. So I felt it couldn't hurt to ask and then those showed up soon after

I never noticed a pet family aside from spirit beasts with serious model differences.

The shale spider as spider icon has bugged me for a long time. I'd love for those icons to be used instead.

Thanks to everyone who remembered this thread and posted on the official forum when they finally got beta access. I admit I'd completely forgotten about it until now and was very happy to see some had replied

to be honest I kinda forgot until the other day <.<

Though when I do PVP, I use both a Shale Spider and a Spider a lot depending on spec, and them having the same icon is actually a pain in the ass when I'm trying to call the wrong pet.
