That's a great idea, Pop, especially after the tribute to Lonely George in MoP.

I would hope that he would have some sort of role to fight against in-game poacher NPCs.

After all, our characters are hunters - those who risk their lives and use their skills of survival in the wild to capture or kill great beasts, while maintaining a respect for nature (we have loads of pets, after all )

Poachers are basically the equivalent of level 90's camping out in Stranglethorn Vale and 1-shotting rare creature spawns whenever they appear...

Kinda funny how people on the forum immediately went "AW YEAH POACHERS WE LOVE POACHERS", I wouldn't want to meet those people irl. o.o They sound terrifying.

That said, a very good idea though I don't think people would support him killing NPCs. I could see him being added as a friendly NPC that just wanders, though, or the mount for a draenei lore character?

How many of you have hunted in RL? Reason I ask is related to this, as especially in the state I live in, CA, there is a lot of RL hunter hate, so anything like this poaching sends that even higher. But it gets me wondering about WoW hunters here, and how that corrolates, if at all, to RL hunting (or support for or indifference to ).

Sadly, as long as there is money on the table, this will continue, whether it's ivory or shark fin soup, or any number of things are are a waste of life and animal resources.

I'm not a hunter, but I support regulated hunting- especially when it's not just for trophies. I've never really understood the macho sort of "man over wild" idea that comes from trophy hunting, but people who use the animal's body (meat, skin, bones) are cool in my books.

It's poachers that get my goat. People that kill illegally or just to make people angry- like the guy that killed Limpy in Yellowstone Park. You know that person was just waiting for the day when they could kill the fan-favorite wolf.

Pretty much my take. The whole notion of trophy hunting needs to retire. Unless you eat the meat, you shouldn't be hunting it.

I worked in a hunting store for a few years. While I can't say I'm overly fond of it, like Lupis I don't really have an issue with regulated hunting where the person uses the entire animal. Poaching and trophy hunting disgusts me though.

I hunt in RL Boar and elk. I usually get cow tags for the elk but I will sometimes get a bull tag. Now while I haven't ever got a bull I would use the meat as well as taking the rack.
As for the boar it is the same way. I do want the biggest meanest boar with the biggest cutters but I use all the animal as well as taking the cutters.

(I have hunted before, and still would if it wasn't just dang dangerous in CA, and too expensive to get out of state tags..)

But to the original point of the thread, my only concern with making Satao in game would be that it would become an anti-hunting thing instead of an anti-poaching thing.

Hopefully, it'd be seen as an anti-poaching thing. Satao was killed by poachers, after all, and if people can't see the difference between hunters and poachers... that's their problem.

Totally agree. But the guys who pay for a helicopter, a guide, a nice resort, all to collect an animal head.. grr...

Well a lot of times in Afica the animals are farmed and bred just for that XD There is a Louis Theroux doco about that it's really good.

Yeah he probably should not be attacking npcs or anything but if he was just a friendly mob that wandered nagrand or something I think that would be perfect. respectful but not something you could easily twist into an anti hunting thing. I also like the idea of making him a mount of a lore figure. That would be pretty cool.

I am strongly against poaching. It disgusts and saddened me to see animals brutally cut down just for a single part of their body while everything else is left to rot. I also am not a fan of trophy hunting.
I Am NOT against hunting itself though. I know it often generates good revenue that help preserve and conserve wildlife and helps keep some animal populations in check. Even though I love animals I do support hunting for food and am not against someone trophy hunting/ taking home and displaying the skin/rack/skull ect of an animal they killed so long as they used the meat as well. I think knowing how to hunt, shoot and skin an animal are all good survival skills to have.
As for myself I usually only do a bit of fishing. if what we catch is big enough to feed the family we keep it and have fish and chips or for dinner.

As for the wow forums, I hate posting there since the wow forums community is 95% seething teen hate and trolls trying to out troll each other so its no surprise that a friendly suggestion gets attacked. Sometimes I feel like the petopia forums gets more stuff done since the wow forums are so relentlessly attacked. I once saw a support thread for a girl with cancer filled with way too many comments like "I hope she dies slowly" and "good. there are enough kids in the world already. good riddance."
