This morning (August 11th) Robin Williams was found, already passed away, according to numerous sources confirmed to be as of August 12th, suicide. He'd been battling addiction problems and depression for years and it looks like it finally got to him.

Great man, great actor. I'm wholly stunned. For those like myself who loved him, this hit me like a ton of bricks. .-----.

This makes me really sad man, he was so big in my childhood I can't believe he's gone...

I'm incredibly saddened by the news, I just can't believe it. I've been crying since I found out. He was a huge part of my childhood.

RIP Robin

Sorry, being pedantic here, but until we get a coronary report it's only alleged that he committed suicide - although from what I've read it does seem likely, as sad as that is.

As with others here, he was a big part of my childhood and beyond - from Hook and Aladdin to his stand ups. He had a lot of misses as well but, despite how bad those stories were, I could forgive them on his charisma alone. His loss is a hard one, although I still think it's settling in for me. Like I can't quite believe that he's gone.
It sucks that the black dog got to him in the end. Depression is never an easy thing to deal with, let alone if you're also struggling with chemical dependence.

RiP. I'm going to spend the next few nights watching a bunch of movies of his to remember to good times.

I was never a fan of his style of comedy (most of the characters he played were my least favorites and generally bugged me to no end), but I can still respect the immensely positive impact he had on generations of people. If the rumors of suicide are true, that's absolutely terrible. Suicide takes a tragedy to whole new levels.

If anything, I hope this has some silver lining in making people realize just how overpowering and dangerous depression is.

Yeah I'm kinda in your boat. He never was a fave of mine and I remember getting shit for it in primary school but yeah I've always respected the impact he had on others!

Yeah he had some super bad depression for awhile now :(

It's said he hung himself or something along those lines. He died of asphyxiation. So no denying it was suicide.

And my heart broke greatly when I heard. I had to step away from my desk.

RIP great man. You're sorely missed. I know he wasn't some people's cup of tea but I loved him because I could relate to a lot of what he said in his interviews. I loved his honesty. :(

Edit: Spelling not a strong suit right now. Or anytime but now it's worse.

It's not uncommon for great comedians (and other creative people) to suffer from mental illness and depression. I think the kind of instabilities that make your mind so creative just make you also more vulnerable to darker things. And his mind burned extremely brightly! I'm really sorry to hear he's gone. He was an amazing comedian and brought so much joy to millions.

Wow what a shock! I admired some of his more serious roles over the slapstick comedy ones - RIP another great has been lost well before their time :(

The news came as a huge shock to me. He was a special talent that doesn't come along very often. A great improviser in comedy, one of the best ever, and an excellent actor as well. I loved his performance in Awakenings. He was perfectly cast for that part.

He will definitely be missed.

I have never hated a group of people so much. It really hits hard, when a lot of people are still hurt by his death. I've know the vile, truly horrific things they've said and done in the past already, whether targeted at men & women serving our country, the LGBT community or people of other religions... but some of the things they do still shocks me sometimes.

WBC is full of horrible, hate mongering mongrels. In terms of D&D, they're lawful evil.

Lawful just means they are abiding by the law. Nothing more. It's not honor or anything. Technically, they are spreading their hate while abiding by the law, thus making them lawful evil. :P
