Memorial Day Air Show

Just got back from the Air Show and WOW!...had a blast and highly recommend you all go to one if it comes to your area. Of course most of the tents were lots of military propaganda but they really had some cool stuff. One was a huge trailer that had a bank of screens and 3 man teams went in and had to clear a terrorist position. Guessing the weapons shot lazers but it was like playing one of the first person shooter games with a twist: your ammo depended on the weapon you chose. Handgun was around 200 rounds, M16 was at 100 and the big 50mm that I had was only 50 rounds. We cleared the area with ammo to spare.
And the planes...lots of stunt planes and sky diver teams. Since the show was at the beach we got to see a coast guard sea rescue. Then the jets came. The A-10 was first in and straffed the beach on a mock run. They explained that it shoots bullets the size of coke bottles at a rate of 7K per second. DAMN! Then the Blue Angels came in...I had forgotten how loud they are! Their maneuvers are beautifully coordinated and are a thrill to watch.
But best of all, the entire show went off with no accidents and it was a beautiful sunny, hot day.
Everyone have a good Memorial Day, eat lots of Bar-B-Que, and take a moment to remember all the troops in the Middle East today and all that have served in previous wars. And since there were two World Wars, pretty much everybody here can give a rememberence even if you're not in America. :D

Memorial Day is a USA national holiday honoring all those that fought and died in the armed service.

I sometimes forget that not all holidays are world-wide. But given the lust for battle that has permeated world history I would think that every country would have a day set aside to honor its fallen soldiers. If your country doesn't have such a day, start one up!

IMO there is only 1 country in the world that doesn't need a holiday like Memorial Day. Switzerland.

Why not?

To my knowledge Switzerland hasn't been involved in a war in 500+ years, and as far as I know it has been a peaceful, and neutral country since then. (I'm not counting UN peace keeping missions only country vs country wars). Every other country has been involved in a plethura of wars. Honestly I do not know of Switzerland's involvement in WW1 and WW2 as they didn't go that much into detail in history class about other countries' involvement except for Britian, France, Germany, Hungery, Japan, US, and Russia. Hell the confrontations between CHina and Japan in WW2 were just a footnote in the textbooks.

Didn't Switzerland stay neutral in WW2 as well?

I guess Sweden can count in the list of lazy countries. It sympathized with the nazis, even.

But mind you, even the neutral countries have heroes. For example, Sweden sent soldiers to aid Finland against the Russians. Not a lot of people know about that, so we get shoved down to the rank of "lazy bastards that agreed with the germans". Not cool. Not cool at all.

Well I can understand Sweden siding with Germany in WW2 considering how it swept across Europe like the Black plague did.

No, it wasn't that way. THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVED IN THE BULLSHIT!

Would you believe me if I told you there were nazi-internment schools in sweden even until the sixties?

Wow I did not know that. Although considering the fact that the ancient germanic tribes were decended from scandanavians makes it believable.

It's a little known fact, and I'm a bit ashamed of it.
*Shrug*

Sweden is pretty full of neo-nazis too. It sucks.

Considering I lost over 14 family members on my mother's side in the camps it's a good thing I don't live there.

*Pat on the back*
My family before grandma' was killed as well. Just sucks.
My hatred for these "diaper-nazis" as they're called here is immense. How they can believe that the horrors they did to people were good...
*Spit*

Not the topic tough.

Too true, Saturo. This thread is about Memorial Day, and honoring those that have died protecting their country/family/etc... I would have enlisted in the Marines over 10 years ago if I could have, but I am unable to enlist do to medical reasons (pubecant seizures caused by biochemical instability) There is an army base 10 minutes from here, and one thing that makes me proud of this area is that almost every hotel/restaurant/store/et al gives a military discount.
