Am I the only one having problems loading WMV now?
I'm getting this error when I try to load (the newest version of) WMV:

Fatal Error: Could not read data from MPQ files.
Please make sure World of Warcraft is not running.

And no, it's not running. Is it simply because it hasn't been updated yet?

Bear with my horrible explanation because I can't actually remember the details, I'm sure someone else might though, but I think WoW changed something in how the files work or extract with WoD? Anyways, from what I understand WMV won't work until they update it, and I'm not sure if that's something that's being worked on or not. I hope so!

Ah, yeah. Come to think of it, I think someone mentioned that here sometime. :)
Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I guess we just have to wait then.

Yeah WMV does the same thing like NPCScan did with the WPQ files. Though WMV hardly worked with Mists so...

They have changed from MPQ to CASC, so it will need a update to work, i guess

There's still no update.

You can convert stuff to work in WMV using a CASC file reader such as http://www.zezula.net/en/casc/main.html to extract the models you're after then creating your own MPQ archive for WMV to read using http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html .

But it's more complicated than that, so hopefully you know what you're doing. If not I can post a more detailed explanation at some point, I just don't have time atm :)

Thank you for that, but I was only going to use WMV for creating an updated signature. But I think I'll wait until they update it. :P

I was encountering the same. I need the megaera model for a little sculptris project I am working on,
and the wowhead model viewer is way to small and you cannot pause it >_>

I forgot to turn of the autoupdate in Bnet and wasn't able to backup the current mpq files in separate folder >_>

You either go the less the savory way I guess trying to get an older patch/install of wow
or if you have the install cd of Mop you can make a install a separate drive/folder and just keep the MPQ files of that and delete the rest. (not sure if that is actually still possible?)

unless you want the new 6.0 stuff then I guess you have to go the Wain way :3

Unfortunately my way also requires an older copy of the game to still exist on your computer. You still need the basics and I think it would be too complicated to create new mpqs to cover all of it. You really are best using your old installer discs to create a separate copy of WoW on your HDD. Then go to WMV and open options. You'll see a list of mpq files it tries to include. Those no longer exist. Instead take note of them and then delete them and add the files with the same name from your new old copy of the game.

To get it to show Draenor stuff you need to assemble an extra mpq file that contains models that you extract from the new game. But that's another story for another post.

However the good news is that WMV development has restarted and Jeromnimo is working on creating a casc version now.
