Portent untameable now

So today I was flying around mining and I saw portent tracks up and decided to tame it as I got close and saw it was a color I didn't have. Went to try and failed after about six times of him just pacing the flare and the tame breaking off I gave up. He moves too fast and with out hunters mark to keep him out of stealth can't tame him. I know blizz was removing buttons but that one was so key to having time to tame these hidden pets.

Did you flare infront of him before he walked into it? Easy to tame him that way if you have glyph of tame pet(or whatever it's called). :)

Yup twice. He just moves out of it long before six seconds is up.

Flare in front of him, disengage back and tame then. By the time 6 seconds is up, he'll be close to being out of range, but not enough.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. Gotta be just right, granted.

Trap him. Helped my husband track him the other day. Basically took a few tries of careful trap/flare prediction placement. Helps if you have his path memorized.

That too. Freeze trap is amazing.

I was not aware they made it so you could trap him now. I remember from before that he wasn't trap able.

So the trap works now? Last I tried before the patch he was immune to it.

I was unaware of the trap immunity issue. It always worked when I tamed my 4, & it worked for the husband. Perhaps an unintended bug? Tbh I hadn't given portent much thought in at least a year till the hubs asked the other day for hell on his hunter. Trap worked last week. I'm not in the know if it's failed since then.

TO let ALL my fellow HUNTERS know with patch 6.0 hunters lost hunters mark to tame the "HUNTER'S only" beasts, ( portent, savage, glimmer, etc.) you can still use flare,WE can use an ICE TRAP, they are NO longer immune to the trap. I hope this post helps ALL my fellow hunter's in 6.0 :)

hopefully blizzard will make a workaround for this maybe make them aggro the hunters when using flare that way they wont re-stealth and walk off

i am however upset that blizz took away what made up my rotation as now the only thing i can do is repeatedly use arcane shot as its the only damaging single target attack i have left aside from kill shot, concussion shot and kill command.

blizz stated that they wanted to remove things that were not needed or were redundant yet they removed plenty of things that were needed and not redundant like serpent sting for example bm no longer has it and Stampede which they made a talent which is a brain dead move that shows no intelligent thought whatsoever if they didnt want us to have it they should have removed it and gave us something else at lvl 87 but no they make us choose between something that has more dps then something that we were supposed to have from the start? and why the hell did they remove fervor?

Yep, I tamed the green one by running ahead of him, dropping a flare, and then launching a trap just when he showed up and quickly using tame. I have the taming glyph and that helps a lot. It's trickier than it used to be but in my opinion, even more fun. There is no need for any workaround. It's perfect as it is.

I did miss Hunter's mark but in retrospect, it was kind of a silly ability to have. I liked Serpent Sting and Hawk aspect but they have baked enough damage into our shots, even for BM, to make up for not having them. I actually have not changed my rotation at all except for not having to apply Serpent. I do agree about Stampede though. It should be a baseline ability for BM Hunters. Fervor was also replaced by Focusing Shot but I still use Dire Beast. It's more fun and seems to give more focus now than before.

Just ran into similar problems trying to tame Bombyx. Managed it in the end by dropping a flare on his path and having a target/tame macro which I was spamming like crazy XD Took a couple of tries, but got there in the end with about half a second to spare before he left the flare. If I'd read this thread first it would've made life so much easier - I didn't know the rares are trappable now...

I want Hunter's Mark back, dammit.

I was playing around with Portent last night. he does some strange things. If you trap him, he remains in the trap even when the flare runs out. Drop another flare and there he is. After the trap breaks, he remains still in that place for a while. Then he despawns and respawns at the place he would have been if not delayed by the trap.
