Many of the pets Im after are lower levels so I dont want to risk killing them. Given this I have got myself a level 1 weapon and taken off my armor and items.

Currently Im wearing the starter gear but Im wondering if anyone could put together a list of items which would look good for hunting - and list where it can be found.

Thanks !

You shouldn't have to go through that much effort as low level pets can easily be tamed just by hitting the tame beast button, no attacking needed. ;)

Ban'Thalos is one which needs to be tagged before you can tame him. Would feel pretty bad if I 1-shot it.

Cheers,

I'm pretty sure just shooting off one auto-attack onto him and them immediately canceling your attack (by pressing escape or using a macro) should keep from one-shotting him. I don't think his health is so low he can't survive an auto-attack. But if it concerns you that much just set up a section in your equipment manager where your character is naked, save for a weapon. No need to spend a bunch of money getting low level gear.

He's a level 85 elite...you won't one shot him, trust me.

He has 387k health according to wowhead.com--he didn't spawn for me when I went to check and look for myself--however, I can comfortably say in my "average" geared hunter (ie mainly 496 TI pieces) that I only white hit mobs of about that same level range for ~13k. Providing you only white him once or twice it should be a non-issue wearing a normal full set of gear to tame a creature like Ban'thalos. :)

And 99% of other low level mobs pretty much can just be walked up to and just hit tame beast. I feel like it's a little silly to go so far out of the way (and potentially spend gold that doesn't need to be spent) for a very low percentage of mobs that might need to be tagged before taming. However, if a person really wants to have a low level set of gear on them for such purposes, be my guest. :) Just remember that your damage isn't going to go down that much just because you downgraded your gear; if you're one-shotting mobs now you probably still will post gear change.

I imagine even at level 100 a white hit on Banny at current 100 gear level won't kill him if he's flapping around with 300k. :) Chimaeron doesn't require a lower gear level either as you can always control how much/how hard you're hitting him.
