Where is the Phoenix pet obtained?

I joined the Navy a year ago, and haven't had a chance to play until last week so I'm waaaaay out of the pet knowledge loop.
Today in a bg, I saw a hunter with a pandaren phoenix pet? Was it a glyph, or rare spawn, or missing labeled mob that's no longer tamable? I can't seem to find it.

I think you might mean one of the Teroclaws

I beg to differ. I saw the same thing in a bg. it did not have feet like the carrion bird.

are you sure it wasn't his mount you saw?
there was a way in Pandaria of getting a phoenix mount through challenge dungeons, like silver, gold, whatever.
