Um i don't know if you guys have seen this and if theres a thread for it you can take this down.
I just saw this vid what lvling in cata will be like it seems good like it tells you what skills you can now learn etc

It's fancy looking! I saw a screenshot earlier that gave me the idea that it could also show up on the screen all at once. I would rather opt for that than see everything gradually fading in and out on the screen, but who knows for sure till we can test it out ourselves. I wonder what inspired them to go with that feature.

I don't think this actually teaches you the new abilities. It merely notifies you on what ones are available if you visit a trainer.
This would come in handy if, for example, you ding while out questing somewhere and want to see if it's worth it to go to a major city or if the abilities can wait for a bit.

Ahh... From the wording, it seems more like "New spell available" than "New spell available from trainer!"...

I read it as telling you what you can buy, not that you had it. I think if it were telling us that we now have it, it would say "New ability learned"

No learning higher spell ranks in Cata, you get them automatically when you level up. But you still have to train new spells.

Aww, I thought the glorious lightshow that pops up had somehow been changed.
The "New spells available" sure is handy, though. I can't count how many times I've leveled, went all the way to a major city from an area that takes a 20 minute flightpath to get there, and then finding out I have no new spells.

Yeah they announced a while back (during all the official Cata information releases) that they were planning to inform players when new spells were available to learn.
I think it's particularly because they're planning to remove spell ranks, as Lazuly explained. If you don't have to train to rank up, it's easy to forget to train at all, particularly at higher levels.
