Hmm, I'm not sure if they're very obscure, but I have a bunch of pets that are named in reference of something (sorry for length):

Aleister - named for the infamous occultist Aleister Crowley since the purple crocolisk has a rather sinister look to it, especially with those red eyes

Baphomet - similarly named after the goat-headed pagan god. I used to have this name on an actual goat but the stag just has a better aura to it

Belmont - from the Castlevania series of course, hopefully needs no introduction

Hegg - slightly more obscure perhaps, named after the singer Johan Hegg from the band Amon Amarth, they have a lot of Norse inspired songs that remind me of Northrend

Kevin - named after the bird from the movie Up

Rancid - mostly named after the punk band, since he has a mohawk

Reznor - named for the Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, also because it's just an awesome sounding name

Ripley - sort of a nod to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, being a strange two-headed creature

Turisas - named after the band, they paint themselves in red and black warpaint

Burton - named for Tim Burton since the black and white stripes were reminiscent of his style

Frankenswine - just because it's an awesome pun

Gomorah - from the Sodom & Gomorrah biblical tale, since basilisks turn their prey to stone and people turned to salt by looking back, etc, etc (I couldn't use the actual name so I had to take out an R, but it still works)

Rlyeh - named after R'lyeh, the lost city from Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu

Robert - honestly I never use this pet but I just wanted him so I could name him after Robert Plant, the lead singer of Led Zeppelin and his golden mane of hair~

Vorpal - from the sword in Lewis Carroll's poem Jabberwocky, mostly because it's a cool sounding word and seemed to suit the nether ray
